4 SGS ENERGY: GREENER SKILLS FOR A CLEANER FUTURE BTEC LEVEL1/2 FIRST AWARD IN ENGINEERING 20 Week Course - 6-9pm, 2 evenings per week 17 TH JAN ND JUN TH SEPT TH MAR 2018 This qualification is a Technical Award equivalent in size to one GCSE. It is aimed at people working at level 2 who want to undertake a study of Engineering. It has been designed to give the opportunity to gain a broad understanding and knowledge of the engineering sector and may allow progression to level 3 academic or vocational qualifications or an apprenticeship for those who want to take study of this subject further. INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING INCLUDING THE ENGINEERING WORLD AND H&S IN ENGINEERING 10 Week Course - 6-9pm, 2 evenings per week 18 TH JAN TH MAR TH APR TH JUL 2017 This is a taster qualification for people who are thinking of becoming occupationally ready to take up employment in the Engineering sector at the appropriate level. By studying a BTEC National, learners develop knowledge, understanding and skills required by the sector, including essential employability skills, and apply them in real work contexts. Progression can include a full level 3 academic or vocational qualifications or an apprenticeship for those who want to take study of this subject further.

5 PRACTICAL INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING 5 Week Course - 6-9pm 2 evenings per week 17 TH JAN ND FEB TH SEPT TH OCT TH NOV TH DEC 2017 UNIT 52: ENERGY MANAGEMENT LEVEL 5 25 Week Course - 6-9pm, 2 evenings per week 17 TH JAN TH JUL TH SEPT TH MAY 2018 This unit investigates energy management principles and techniques. The principal focus is to establish and develop an energy audit in the context of a plant engineering environment. This unit is concerned with energy conservation, including energy conservation awareness for both the organisation and personnel. Integral to the content is environmental management, which is now becoming ever increasingly important in energy conservation. Greater gains, both environmentally and economically, can be achieved by cutting down on waste and maximising the efficient use of energy. Through case studies learners will investigate how environmental objectives and targets are achieved in different industrial or commercial organisations. Learners will understand how this is achieved through co-ordinating personnel, systems, strategy, resources and structures. Learners will work on a project to ascertain the overall annual heat energy losses (or gains) of an operational building which houses plant engineering equipment and process plant. Architectural plans providing details of the building fabric and design may be helpful in calculating any heat energy gains or losses. The energy audit need not be confined to this type of project but to arrive at the outcomes the learner must demonstrate the ability to apply heat energy management concepts. Progression could be onto an HNC/D or a higher apprenticeship depending on experience and prior qualifications. Experience what it is like to be an engineer with a practical introduction. The course will include a basic introduction to milling, turning, and hand fitting whilst also giving an appreciation of CAD and CNC.
