3 ABOUT WASCAL ASCAL is a large-scale research-focused and capacity building centre designed to help ackle the challenge of climate change and increased variability in West Africa. OW? Strengthening the research infrastructure and capacity in West Africa Pooling the expertise of ten West African countries and Germany on CC and related issues. 3

4 About WASCAL Contin d Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), WASCAL is implemented in a collaborative efforts by West-Africans and Germans; WASCAL cooperates with many agencies and universities within West Africa in providing a knowledge platform of excellence for its partners. Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo + (Capo Verde). 4

5 OUR VISION WASCAL seeks to become one of Africa s leading institutions in the provision of climate services in and for West Africa. 5

6 OUR MISSION To provide information and knowledge at the local, national, and regional levels to West African member countries to cope with the adverse impacts of CC. We do this through: Capacity Building support to young West African Scholars ; Strengthening West African universities and climate service departments in WASCAL member countries. 6
