7 1 Scope EN :2004 (E) Prt 2 of this document, in ddition to Prt 1, specifies the technicl delivery conditions for flt nd long products nd semifinished products which re ment for further processing to flt nd long products of hot rolled nonlloy qulity steels in the grdes nd qulities given in Tbles 2 to 6 (chemicl composition) nd Tbles 7 to 9 (mechnicl properties) in the delivery conditions s given in 6.3. Three engineering steels re lso specified in this document (see Tbles 3 nd 5) (chemicl composition) nd Tble 8 (mechnicl properties). This document does not pply to structurl hollow sections nd tubes (see EN nd EN ). The technicl delivery conditions pply to thicknesses 3 mm nd 150 mm for long products of steel grde S450J0. The technicl delivery conditions pply to thicknesses 250 mm for flt nd long products of ll other grdes nd qulities. In ddition for flt products of qulities J2 nd K2 the technicl conditions pply to thicknesses 400 mm. Products mde of steel grdes S185, E295, E335 nd E360 cnnot be CE mrked. The steels specified in this Prt 2 re not intended to be het treted ecept products delivered in delivery condition +N. Stress relief nneling is permitted (see lso the NOTE in of EN :2004). Products delivered in +N condition cn be hot formed nd/or normlized fter delivery (see Cluse 3). NOTE 1 Semifinished products which re to be converted to rolled finished products conforming to this document should be the subject of specil greement t the time of the enquiry nd order. The chemicl composition cn lso be greed t the time of the order, however the vlues should be within the limits of Tbles 2 nd 3. EN ISO 643, Steels Microgrphic determintion of the pprent grin size (ISO 643:2003). 3 Terms nd definitions For the purposes of this document, the terms nd definitions given in EN :2004 nd the following pply. 3.1 normlizing rolling rolling process in which the finl deformtion is crried out in certin temperture rnge leding to mteril condition equivlent to tht obtined fter normlizing so tht the specified vlues of the mechnicl properties re retined even fter normlizing The bbrevited form of this delivery condition is +N NOTE In interntionl publictions for both the normlizing rolling, s well s the thermomechnicl rolling, the epression "controlled rolling" my be found. However in view of the different pplicbility of the products distinction of the terms is necessry. 3.2 srolled delivery condition without ny specil rolling nd/or het tretment condition. The bbrevited form of this delivery condition is +AR 3.3 thermomechnicl rolling rolling process in which the finl deformtion is crried out in certin temperture rnge leding to mteril condition with certin properties which cnnot be chieved or repeted by het tretment lone NOTE 1 Subsequent heting bove 580 C my lower the strength vlues. If tempertures bove 580 C re needed reference should be mde to the supplier. NOTE 3 In some publictions the word TMCP (Thermomechnicl Control Process) is lso used. 4 Clssifiction nd designtion 4.1 Clssifiction Min qulity clsses The steel grdes specified in this document shll be clssified s nonlloy qulity steels ccording to EN

10 EN :2004 (E) Grdes nd qulities This document specifies eight steel grdes S185, S235, S5, S355, S450, E295, E335 nd E360. They differ in their mechnicl properties. The steel grdes S235 nd S5 my be supplied in qulities JR, J0 nd J2. The steel grde S355 my be supplied in qulities JR, J0, J2 nd K2. The steel grde S450 is supplied in qulity J0. The qulities differ in specified impct energy requirements. 4.2 Designtion The designtion shll be in ccordnce with EN NOTE For list of corresponding former designtions nd the former designtions from EN 10025:1990 nd EN 10025:1990+A1:1993 see Anne A, Tble A The designtion shll consist of: number of this document (EN ); steel nme or the steel number; the steel nme consisting of: 8 symbol S (for structurl steel) or E (for engineering steel); indiction of the minimum specified yield strength for thickness 16 mm epressed in MP 1) ; if pplicble, the qulity designtion (see 4.1.2) in respect of specified impct energy vlues; if pplicble, the dditionl symbol C for the suitbility for the prticulr ppliction (see Tbles 10, 11, 12 nd 13). indiction "+N or +AR", when the products re ordered nd delivered in the condition +N or +AR (see 3.1, 3.2 nd 6.3). The indiction "+N or +AR" shll lso be dded to the steel number. EXAMPLE Structurl steel (S) with specified minimum yield strength t mbient temperture of 355 MP 1), with minimum impct energy vlue of J t 0 ºC (J0) nd suitble for cold flnging (C), delivery condition normlized rolled (or s rolled): or Steel EN S355J0C+N (or +AR) Steel EN N (or +AR) 5 Informtion to be supplied by the purchser 5.1 Mndtory informtion The informtion tht shll be supplied by the purchser t the time of the order is specified in EN In ddition to EN the following informtion shll be supplied by the purchser t the time of the order: 1 ) 1 MP = 1 N/mm 2.

11 EN :2004 (E) g) whether products hve to be submitted to specific or nonspecific inspection nd testing nd which inspection document is required (see 8.2); h) whether the verifiction of the mechnicl properties for the qulity JR nd the steel grdes E295, E335 nd E360 hs to be crried out by cst or by lot (see ). 5.2 Options A number of options re specified in Cluse 13. In the event tht the purchser does not indicte his wish to implement ny of these options, the supplier shll supply in ccordnce with the bsic specifiction. 6 Mnufcturing process 6.1 Steel mking process The steel mking process shll be in ccordnce with EN If specified t the time of the order the steel mking process shll be reported to the purchser, with the eception of steel S185. See option Deoidtion The method of deoidtion shll be s given in Tbles 2 nd The deoidtion methods re designted s follows: ) Optionl Method t the mnufcturer's discretion; b) FN Rimming steel not permitted; c) FF Fully killed steel contining nitrogen binding elements in mounts sufficient to bind the vilble nitrogen (for emple min. 0,020 totl luminium). The usul guideline is minimum luminium to nitrogen rtio of 2:1, when no other nitrogen binding elements re present. Such other elements shll be reported in the inspection document. 6.3 Delivery conditions The delivery condition of long products nd continuous mill flt products cn be +AR, +N or +M t the mnufcturer's discretion. The delivery condition of qurto mill products cn only be +AR or +N t the mnufcturer's discretion. The delivery condition +AR or +N cn be ordered. See option 19A. If n inspection document is required (see 8.2) the delivery condition shll be indicted in it with its specific symbol (+N, +AR or +M). In cse the products re ordered in the delivery condition +N or +AR the specific symbol (+N or +AR) shll be dded to the designtion (see 4.2.2). 9

12 EN :2004 (E) 7 Requirements 7.1 Generl The following requirements pply when smpling, preprtion of test pieces nd testing specified in Cluses 8, 9 nd 10 re crried out. 7.2 Chemicl composition The chemicl composition determined by ldle nlysis shll comply with the specified vlues of Tbles 2 nd The upper limits pplicble for the product nlysis re given in Tbles 4 nd 5. The product nlysis shll be crried out when specified t the time of the order. See option The mimum crbon equivlent vlues for the grdes S235, S5, S355 nd S450, bsed on the ldle nlysis, given in Tble 6 shll pply. For the crbon equivlent vlue formul see of EN : For ll S235, S5 nd S355 qulities the following dditionl chemicl requirement cn be greed t the time of the order: Coppercontent between 0,25 nd 0,40 on ldle nlysis nd between 0,20 nd 0,45 on product nlysis. In this cse the mimum crbon equivlent vlue of Tble 6 shll be incresed by 0,02. See option When products of grde S5 nd S355 re supplied with control on Si e.g. for hotdip zinccoting so tht there could be need to increse the content of other elements like C nd Mn to chieve the required tensile properties, the mimum crbon equivlent vlues of Tble 6 shll be incresed s follows: for Si 0,030, increse CEV by 0,02 ; for Si 0,25, increse CEV by 0, Mechnicl properties Generl Under the inspection nd testing conditions s specified in Cluses 8, 9 nd 10 nd in the delivery condition s specified in 6.3 the mechnicl properties shll comply with the vlues given in Tbles 7, 8 nd For products ordered nd supplied in the normlized or normlized rolled condition (see 6.3) the mechnicl properties shll comply with Tbles 7, 8 nd 9 in the normlized or normlized rolled condition s well s fter normlizing by het tretment fter delivery For products supplied srolled for normlizing by the purchser the smples shll be normlized, if requested t the time of the order. The vlues obtined from the normlized smples shll comply with this document. The results shll be reported in the inspection document. NOTE The results of these tests do not represent the properties of the supplied products but indicte the properties which cn be chieved fter correct normlizing. 10

13 EN :2004 (E) For flt products the nominl thickness pplies. For long products of irregulr section the nominl thickness of tht prt from which the smples re tken pplies (see Anne A of EN :2004) Impct properties The verifiction of the impct energy vlue shll be crried out in ccordnce with EN The impct properties of qulity JR products re verified only when specified t the time of the order. See option For products of qulity J2 nd K2 with nominl thickness < 6 mm the ferritic grin size shll be 6, verified by the method s described in EN ISO 643, if specified t the time of the order. See option 21. When luminum is used s the grin refining element, the grin size requirement shll be deemed to be fulfilled if on ldle nlysis the luminum content is not less thn 0,020 totl luminum or lterntively, 0,015 cid soluble luminum. In this cse verifiction of the grin size is not required, but the luminum content shll be indicted in the inspection document Improved deformtion properties perpendiculr to the surfce If greed t the time of the order products of qulities J2 nd K2 shll comply with one of the requirements of EN See option Technologicl properties Weldbility Generl requirements for welding of the steels of the qulities JR, J0, J2 nd K2 shll be given in EN NOTE With incresing product thickness nd strength level cold crcking cn occur. Cold crcking is cused by the following fctors in combintion: the mount of diffusible hydrogen in the weld metl; brittle structure of the het ffected zone; significnt tensile stress concentrtions in the welded joint This document gives no informtion concerning the weldbility of the steel grdes S185, E295, E335 nd E360 becuse the chemicl composition is not specified Formbility NOTE Recommendtions regrding hot nd cold forming re lid down in ECSC IC 2. Although ECSC IC2 is specilly ment for fine grin steels, these recommendtions cn lso pply for the steel grdes of EN : Hot forming Only products ordered nd supplied in the normlized or normlized rolled condition shll comply with the requirements of Tbles 7, 8 nd 9 if hot forming is crried out fter delivery (see ). 11

14 EN :2004 (E) Cold formbility Generl Grdes nd qulities suitble for cold forming nd engineering steels suitble for cold drwing shll be designted by the pproprite steel nme (including symbol C or GC) or the pproprite steel number s indicted in Tbles 10 to 13 (see 4.2.2). NOTE Cold forming leds to reduction in the ductility. Furthermore it is necessry to drw the ttention to the risk of brittle frcture in connection with hotdip zinccoting Flngebility If specified t the time of the order plte, sheet, strip, wide flts nd flts (width < 150 mm) with nominl thickness 30 mm shll be suitble for flnging without crcking with the minimum recommended bend rdii given in Tble 12. The grdes nd qulities to which this pplies re given in Tble 10. See option Roll forming If specified t the time of the order plte, sheet nd strip with nominl thickness 8 mm shll be suitble for the production of sections by cold rolling (for emple ccording to EN 10162). The suitbility is pplicble for bend rdii given in Tble 13. The grdes nd qulities concerned re given in Tble 10. See option Drwing of brs If specified t the time of the order, brs shll be suitble for cold drwing. The grdes nd qulities to which this pplies re given in Tbles 10 nd 11. See option Suitbility for hotdip zinccoting Hotdip zinccoting requirements shll be greed between mnufcturer nd purchser. EN ISO 1461 nd EN ISO should be used to set these coting requirements. The definition of suitbility clsses bsed upon chemicl nlysis limittions s lid down in Tble 1 cn be used for guidnce purposes. These increses pply for S5 nd S355 (see 7.2.5). See option 5. NOTE Product shpe, composition of the zinc bth, other hotdip tretment settings nd other fctors should be considered when greeing upon hotdip zinccoting requirements Mchinbility All steel grdes nd qulities re mchinble with common opertions. NOTE Due to the good ductility of qulities JR, J0, J2 nd K2 problems cn occur in the chip formtion nd in surfce finish qulity. Generlly higher S content improves mchinbility. A proper C tretment pplicble for long products gives better mchining properties (see footnote e of Tble 2 nd footnote c of Tble 3). 7.5 Surfce properties Strip The surfce condition should not impir n ppliction pproprite to the steel grde if dequte processing of the strip is pplied Pltes nd wide flts EN prts 1 nd 2 shll pply for the permissible surfce discontinuities nd for the repir of surfce defects by grinding nd/or welding. Clss A, subclss 1 of EN shll pply, unless otherwise greed t the time of the order. See option Sections EN prts 1 nd 3 shll pply for the permissible surfce discontinuities nd for the repir of surfce defects by grinding nd/or welding. For hot rolled plte tolernces the bsic requirements shll be in ccordnce with EN 10029, including thickness tolernces to clss A, unless otherwise greed t the time of the order. See option 18.
