2 Fully automated blood fractionation and buffy coat transfer applications Before a biobanking blood sample is sent to storage for many years or even decades, the sample must be split into different fractions. Especially the isolation of the DNA-rich buffy coat is a labor intensive and tedious task for most operators. The easyblood Standard Solution automates the fraction separation process and increases the reliability and accuracy of both fraction detection and pipetting. Its high resolution industrial camera takes an image and the image processing software determines the position and amount of buffy coat and plasma. Using the proven Hamilton pipetting technology, the fractions are split into one or multiple aliquots and pipetted into any kind of storage or processing container. The specially designed carrier allows the system to scan and image the tubes without any need for single tube movements. This reduces the risk of error while speeding up the process significantly. Up to 4 tubes can be analyzed simultaneously and up to 8 tubes can be pipetted simultaneously. A maximum of 192 samples can be loaded and fractionated per run, which results in significant walk away time. Automated tube barcode detection, 2D barcode reading, labware and consumable identification reduces the operator s interactions to an absolute minimum. Technology The high resolution industrial camera takes images and Hamilton proprietary software analyzes the images to scan for the red blood cell fraction, buffy coat layer and plasma fraction. The detection is more exact than when performed manually The instrument is equipped with a light source to make the imaging process reproducible and reliable Pipetting with air displacement technology reduces the risk of cross contamination and increases the safety of the user and the precious sample Configurable parameters for detection maximize readability regardless of sample quality A picture of every sample is stored for future analysis if required.

4 Biobanking Fully integrated sample preparation The easyblood Standard Solution comes with pre-defined methods that can serve as templates for the customer specific application. Hamilton s camera applications are the basis for this add-on software for improved detection of all three fractions. Not only the detection of buffy coat, but also the gel plug in PST and SST tubes can be detected and pipetted accordingly. A 2D reader is available from Hamilton which can seamlessly be integrated on the deck of the STAR without the need for a separate plate moving arm or an external device. All tubes of all major manufacturers can be identified on the deck and used as target containers. This allows complete sample tracking with cost-efficient robotics and saves deck space. Additional modules and options Cost efficient CO-RE Gripper for plate movements 2D barcode reader Hamilton Multiflex heating and cooling modules HEPA filter hood More accessories available upon request
