1 DIVISION OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OFFICE OF THE UNIVERSITY ARCHITECT Lilia Gonzales University Architect COUNCIL FOR THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT TRACK B REPORT Project Name: Issue Date: Watts Cross Country Storage Building 5/5/2017 Project Requestor: Individual/College or Division/Department or Unit Date Request Received: Kevin Hurley, Athletics Department 4/24/2017 CBE Sub Councils Reviewed (reports attached): X DRsc X TRsc FUPsc Msc Other Report copies provided to: CBE Co Chairs, CBE Coordinator, CBE Sub Council Chairs Kevin Hurley, Scott Woodward Status: Not Approved X Approved Approved with Caveats Caveats: For full details see the attached Sub Council Reports DRsc X TRsc FUPsc X Msc Summary of Caveats: Design Review sub council none Maintenance sub council Athletics would be responsible for the maintenance of the facility. Technical Review sub council: CIS: TAMU IT has no issues with this construction unless Campus Network connectivity is needed, if Network connectivity is needed then a few items must be addressed. 1. Fiber optic connectivity would need to be established to the site. 2. TAMU IT will need to know how many Data/VoIP ports are needed in the facility. 3. The department responsible for this facility will need to submit a request detailing their Data/VoIP needs along with an account number before any TAMU IT work is started. Facility Services: The design team needs to ensure that the project does not increase the rate of storm runoff into local creeks. The project team should coordinate with Grounds Management for landscaping and irrigation concerns. The project team should ensure that the facility is designed to minimize, as much as practical, the effort needed for future maintenance. It is preferred that items requiring maintenance be easy to service, be easily accessible from ground or floor level, have generous clearances and be easy to isolate from energy sources with minimal impact to the rest of the facility. Elevated items requiring maintenance that are difficult to service by ladder or lift should have permanent maintenance access platforms with permanent stairs or ladders, built in fall prevention, and davits for hoisting parts and tools. EH&S: From EHS and SAS E's perspective, the information provided is very scant. We will approve the project on the conditions that" building construction drawings must be reviewed by EHS, ADA requirements be satisfied, and construction plans must include a storm water protection plan. 8 COUNCIL FOR THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT DESIGN REVIEW SUB-COUNCIL DESIGN REVIEW SUB COUNCIL REPORT From: Ms. Lilia Gonzales Design Review Sub Council Chair Date: May 4, 2017 Subject: Watts Cross Country Storage Building The Design Review sub council (DRsc) reviewed a request from TAMU Athletics for construction of a storage building and platform at the Watts Cross Country Course, located directly behind the Hildebrand Equine Complex on the corner of F&B Road and FM Since the course opened in 2014, transportation of race timing equipment has become an issue and this storage building would allow all equipment to be stored on site. The cinder block storage building would be used for equipment storage, with a platform roof as a timing station. The building would be built into the back of a hill near the finish line of the course and is not intended to be visible from F&B Road. If approved, construction would begin as soon as possible in order to be complete prior to the beginning of the cross country season in September. Recommendation DRsc members voted to recommend approval of the Watts Cross Country Storage Building as requested. cc: DRsc Members
