2 Job description Job Purpose: The Student Engagement Manager plays a pivotal role in maintaining Aston s strong reputation for developing highly-skilled, sought-after, employable graduates. You will be responsible for successfully implementing, maintaining and adding vision to the Careers+Placements Student Engagement Plan; promoting the benefits of career planning, employability skills and placements to Aston students. Reporting to the Head of Student and Employer Engagement, you will have line management responsibility for four members of marketing staff and be responsible for planning staff priorities and workload. In this multi-channel role you will need to think strategically with a proactive approach to marketing, have strong communication and organisation skills. Main Duties/Responsibilities: Implement and monitor a multi-channel Student Engagement Plan for Careers+Placements to meet the key deliverables of the wider team objectives. Instigate and oversee a variety of marketing campaigns throughout the academic year with the intention of increasing awareness and engagement with Careers+Placements. Monitor and measure campaigns through comprehensive campaign reporting. Act as line manager to a small team, providing day to day developmental support. Through leadership, create a climate that not only achieves the objectives, but also fosters team working and collaboration. Oversee the departments events planning, promotion and delivery and the digital marketing strategy including website and social media developments. Work with other members of the Careers+Placements team, Aston s support services and academic staff to deliver cross functional projects. Develop high quality content to support careers education, advice and guidance and employability support for students and graduates. Create a wide range of marketing materials; sourcing, writing and editing content and communications aimed at different audiences across all channels. Manage the department s relationship with external agencies, including, print, design and system providers. Build an excellent working knowledge of the university internal systems including Aston Futures and My Aston Portal (MAP), web content management systems (e.g. Easysite) and learning platforms (e.g. Blackboard). Champion and share marketing best practice to staff across Careers+Placements and police the brand. Ensure activities meet with requirements of legislation relevant to the project including Data Protection, Employment and Health and Safety Legislation. Monitor marketing spend and be able to report back to the Head of Employer and Student Engagement about budget requirements. Responsible of keeping track of the department s online tools, including cost and student access. Undertake any other duties as and when required at the request of the Director of Employability Heads of Department.

4 Person specification Education and qualifications Essential Educated to degree level or equivalent, or experience in a similar level and type of role. Method of assessment Application form Experience Aptitude and skills Professional marketing or communications experience. Previous line management experience of a small team. Experience of devising multi-channel marketing plans and campaigns. An understanding of content management systems to build web pages which meet usability and accessibility best practice standards. Experience in managing social media and online brand activities. Experience of report writing, producing professional documentation, and familiarity with a variety of visual representations of data. Experience of delivering services for diverse stakeholders. Experience working within a corporate visual and written identity. Experience of working to targets or KPIs. Able to work in a fast paced, changing environment and meet deadlines. Demonstrates an interest in keeping skills up to date Demonstrates positive leadership and management qualities. Strong decision making abilities. Able to coach and develop others to success and contribute to a balanced team environment. Advanced IT skills including MS Office and CRM packages. Writing, Copywriting, proof reading and editing skills. Familiarity and flexibility to work with various web authoring packages and learning platforms (e.g. Blackboard).
