1 Operations Officer Hours: Location: Reports to: 35 hours per week, permanent. North of England Regional Office, Home based worker Operations Manager - West Yorkshire Summary and Main Purpose The Duke of Edinburgh s Award (the DofE) is a UK charity that makes a difference to young people s lives. Over 275,000 young people per year from every possible background take part in the DofE programme to broaden their horizons, develop their leadership skills, learn to work with others, volunteer in their local communities, increase their employability, and prove to themselves they can succeed at a serious challenge. The Operations Officer will support the operation and development of the DofE in the North of England Region. The post holder will report to the Operations Manager West Yorkshire and is responsible for the day to day contact with Licenced Organisations, Direct Licenced Centres and other partners in order to support the attainment of the performance, programme and financial targets contained within the regional operating and financial plans. The Operations Officer will have responsibility for the key areas of: Supporting the delivery of the DofE Programme to agreed targets across North of England Licenced Organisations and Directly Licenced Centres. Providing day to day contact and support for Licenced Organisations, Directly Licenced Centres and other partners. Monitoring and enhancing the quality of the DofE delivery in the Region. Implementing Regional objectives for the delivery of the DofE. Marketing the DofE to new and existing groups and the recruitment of new Directly Licensed Centres. Delivery of training. Assisting with fundraising applications for the development and operational activity.

3 Key Accountabilities KA 01: Establish, promote and maintain strong working relationships with Licenced Organisations to ensure the delivery of a high quality DofE programme across the Region. KA 02: Ensure effective day to day contact and support for Licenced Organisations, Directly Licenced Centres and related structures in the region and contribute to the licensing process. KA 03: Market the DofE and recruit new Licensed Organisations in line with the Charity s Directly Licenced Centre Strategy. KA 04: Contribute to the induction and training of Licenced Organisations staff and Directly Licence Centre staff, with specific responsibility for the Introduction to the DofE training. KA 05: Either in partnership with the Licensed Organisation or via direct delivery, train DofE Group staff and volunteers. KA 06: Attend Licenced Organisations and Directly Licence Centre meetings and presentations as appropriate. KA 07: Assist with the achievement of Regional growth targets regarding increased participation and completions as identified by the Director and Operations Manager by working closely with staff and volunteers in the Region. KA 08: Advise on and support the development of the DofE in schools. KA 09: Develop the DofE work with disadvantaged young people, those with additional needs and those from minority ethnic communities. KA 10: Keep abreast of Government, Local Authority and other policies and initiatives and assist the Regional Director and Operations Manager to take necessary action to link these to the Policy and operation of the DofE in the Region. KA 11: With other staff implement the DofE s edofe strategy in the Region. KA 12: Assist with the preparation of grant applications and the monitoring and reporting of externally funded projects. KA 13: Ensure the delivery of the DofE meets UK quality standards and work with staff and volunteers to develop strategies to maintain and improve quality. KA 14: To undertake any other duties, which the Regional Director or Operations Manager requires. KA 15: To undertake other tasks commensurate with the position as required.

4 Qualities and Knowledge Essential Professional qualification in teaching and/or Youth Work or a related field. Experience of running The Duke of Edinburgh s Award and/or other youth accreditation programmes. Experience of working in partnership and participating as a member of a team. Knowledge of Local Authority and Voluntary Organisation structures and agendas and Educational Establishments. Experience in the training of adults and Leaders. Desirable Qualifications and experience in Outdoor Education. Knowledge and experience of working in a school or educational environment. Experience of managing youth programmes and project management including financial management. Experience of using edofe. Experience of working with disadvantaged and additional needs groups. Proven track record of innovative practice. Able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Experience of successfully selling ideas and concepts into organisations. Strong skills in creating and building effective relationships with a wide range of Organisations. Competent in Microsoft applications. Full car driving licence. Skills Able to demonstrate leadership and decision making skills. Able to organise and plan effectively. Ability to communicate and network effectively on all levels. Ability to work collaboratively and as a team member. Ability to work alone, on own initiative, manage time, prioritise workloads, work under competing pressures and to deadlines. Measures of Success Ever increasing number of centres involved in the DofE. Time spent supporting existing Licensed Organisations and DofE Centres and Licensing them to a quality standard. Achievement of Regional targets related to new entrants and awards gained. Number of leaders trained. Increase in the number of disadvantaged Centres and young people reached. Increase in the number of Centres that offer the DofE to young people with additional needs. Contribution to the business plans for the region. Quality of delivery of the DofE in the Licenced Organisations. DofE Values are demonstrated in all work carried out.
