1 Call fr Expressin f Interest Pst Title: Expert Duty Statin: Hme-based Reference: UNWTO/HHRR/CFE/15/RDAP/2018 Start Date: As sn as pssible Department: Reginal Department fr Asia and the Pacific Duratin: 6 mnths Cntractual Status: Expert DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Deadline fr Applicatins: 30 September 2018 The Wrld Turism Organizatin (UNWTO) is the United Natins agency respnsible fr the prmtin f respnsible, sustainable and universally accessible turism. UNWTO is currently lking fr an Expert fr its Reginal Department fr Asia and the Pacific. The Expert will develp and implement a study that aims t prvide knwledge, recmmendatins and case studies n sustainable develpment f wildlife turism in Asia and the Pacific. The verall supervisin f the study will be under the respnsibility f the Directr, Reginal Department fr Asia and the Pacific. The Expert cntract hlder will perfrm the fllwing duties: 1. Develp a wrk plan and an utline f the study accrding t the Terms f Reference (see belw); 2. Submit mnthly prgress reprts and participate in regular phne/skype calls; 3. Submit a draft reprt that adheres t the UNWTO Authr Guidelines; 4. Participate and cntribute in the runds f edits; 5. Submit a Final reprt that adheres t the UNWTO Authr Guidelines and that meets the apprval f the UNWTO; 6. Perfrm ther duties as required. REQUIREMENTS Academic Advanced university degree (Master s degree r equivalent) in turism, turism destinatin management, sustainable develpment, r a related field. Experience and Basic Cmpetencies Minimum ten years f prfessinal experience in the field f turism, wildlife turism management, sustainable develpment, r a related field; Demnstrated experience as an authr; Excellent writing and rganizatin skills. Languages Fluency in English (written and ral) is essential; Gd wrking knwledge f anther f the fficial languages f the Organizatin (Arabic, French, Spanish r Russian) is an asset. Cmputer Skills Cmputer literacy in Micrsft Office sftware and Windws 7. Remuneratin and Other Cnditins The lump sum remuneratin f the selected candidate wuld be USD 22,000. The Expert cntract hlder shall be in pssessin f a majr glbal medical insurance cverage t be paid by the Expert.

2 Applicatin Prcedure All prpsals must meet the fllwing criteria: The prpsal must be clean and cncise, have cntinuus page numbering, and be assembled in cherent fashin; All prpsals must be in English; Technical prpsals shuld nt be mre than 10 pages lng, excluding CVs and supprting dcumentatin and shuld include the Methdlgy fr implementatin and reasns fr this prpsed Methdlgy; level f invlvement and activity f ther partners; rle f each partner; and a plan f actin with descriptin f activities and their timing. Please refer t the attached Terms f Reference fr mre infrmatin. The prpsal shuld be attached t the Online UNWTO Persnal Histry Frm. Interested applicants are requested t cmplete the Online UNWTO Persnal Histry Frm. Please nte that UNWTO will nly accept applicatins received thrugh ur web-based system. Applicatins sent by ther means (e.g. pst, , etc.) r received after the deadline indicated abve, will nt be taken int cnsideratin. Candidates wh d nt receive any feedback within three mnths f the deadline shuld cnsider their applicatin as unsuccessful; Shrt-listed candidates may be asked t take a cmpetitive exam and/r interview as part f the final phase f the selectin prcess. 3 Backgrund UNWTO/Chimelng Initiative Sustainable develpment f wildlife turism in Asia and the Pacific: Gd Practices and their Implicatins (wrking title) Terms f Reference The Wrld Turism Organizatin (UNWTO) and the Guangzhu Chimelng Grup C., Ltd. (Chimelng) have agreed t wrk tgether t advcate fr the United Natin s Sustainable Develpment Gals (SDGs) thrugh the prmtin f sustainable turism with particular reference t wildlife cnservatin. UNWTO and Chimelng have partnered t cnduct research n wildlife cnservatin and its rle in enhancing the quality f human capital, the advancement f sustainable turism plicies in wildlife turism, and t encurage the turism private sectr t adhere t crprate scial respnsibility. Wildlife turism can be defined as the cmpnent f a turism experience r prducts that is based n wildlife (Higginbttm, 2004). While Wildlife Turism has been present since the early stages f the expansin f the turism industry, the cncept has expanded int varius niche areas such Wildlife Watching Turism, Captive Wildlife Turism, Hunting Turism and Fishing Turism. Recently, the Wildlife Turism segment has received an increase f attentin frm the general public and the private sectr (UNWTO, 2014). This is due nt nly t the increasing ecnmic imprtance f Wildlife Turism t bring incmes and jbs but als the grwing cncern f the internatinal cmmunity fr the cnservatin f bidiversity. Wildlife Turism is ften at the centre f wrldwide cntrversies, with issues such as paching, animal abuse, illegal trade r training, in additin t an verall lack f infrmatin available t visitrs abut sustainable plicies and practices. Histrically, the UNWTO has demnstrated a keen interest in bidiversity prtectin with prjects led by the Cnsulting Unit n Turism and Bidiversity and the Technical Cperatin and Services Prgramme and its latest Briefing Paper Twards Measuring the Ecnmic Value f Wildlife Watching Turism in Africa (2014). The UNWTO/Chimelng Initiative will cntribute further t the effrts led by the UNWTO n the theme f Sustainable Turism and Wildlife Cnservatin thrugh the implementatin f activities including wrkshps n wildlife cnservatin and sustainable develpment fr turism, spnsrship fr the Internatinal Year f Sustainable Turism fr Develpment 2017, a cmpilatin f Wildlife Turism cases in Asia and the Pacific, schlarships fr turism PhD students, amng thers. The initiative will have a tw-year timeframe and will target mainly in the Asian and African regins. In the Asia and the Pacific regin, Wildlife Turism has nt been thrughly researched despite being an imprtant ecnmic driver in the regin. In line with the SDGs and with

4 Guangzhu Chimelng Grup s supprt, the UNWTO Reginal Department fr Asia and the Pacific will cnduct research t shwcase successful sustainable Wildlife Turism cases in the regin. Purpse f the study UNWTO/Chimelng Initiative Sustainable Develpment f Wildlife Turism in Asia and the Pacific: Gd Practices and their Implicatins will highlight the psitive impacts that are a result f the implementatin f sustainable plicies within the Wildlife Turism sectr. This study aims t prvide gd practices frm bth the public and private sectrs and t serve as a mdel fr all turism stakehlders. The bjectives f this research prject are as fllws: T shwcase the psitive aspects f Sustainable Wildlife Turism practices (Ecnmic, Scial and Envirnmental); T prvide recmmendatins fr plicy makers, experts, NGOs and cmmunities as a gd guidance fr ensuring sustainability f wildlife turism; T supprt UN s SDGs particularly related t sustainable turism and wildlife cnservatin and cntribute t the legacy f 2017 as the Internatinal Year f Sustainable Turism fr Develpment and the Jurney twards 2030 initiative. Structure f the study The study aims t shwcase arund cases; these cases will cnsider all types f wildlife in all types f settings. The study s cntent, is subject t change, but may fllw the fllwing structure: Executive Summary: This will be a stand-alne dcument f up t seven pages. The executive summary will highlight key findings and plicy recmmendatins and include a reference t the mst representative case studies. Intrductin: The intrductin will explain the purpse and ratinale fr the study. This chapter shuld include an verview f wildlife turism plicies, wildlife turism prducts and services and wildlife turism demand as well as intrducing the principles f sustainable turism. Destinatin case studies: This sectin will be the cre f the publicatin and will require bth primary and secndary research. A minimum f 10 and a maximum f 15 case studies shuld be selected with f a minimum f fur pages each (2,000 wrds) under a cmmn template frmat. The case studies shuld fcus n a specific prject, initiative, r institutin in a cuntry and highlight the multiplier effect (r imprtance) f sustainable wildlife turism at the cuntry-level.

5 Overall cnclusins, recmmendatins and suggestins fr further studies Methdlgy: The full reprt shuld be arund 75 pages (arund 45,000 wrds). This shuld include the case studies (maximum f 15 cases each arund 2,000 wrds) while the ther sectins f the reprt shuld be a maximum f 30 pages (arund 18,000 wrds). Deliverables, Timeframe, and Budget The lead cnsultant will prvide mnthly reprts that summarize the prgress f the wrk, specifying any prblems r cnstraints encuntered. The cnsultant shall deliver the fllwing: Wrk Plan The wrk plan is the first deliverable and shall detail study apprach and methdlgy. The wrk plan will be due tw weeks after cntract signing. Study Outline The study utline shall prvide a draft table f cntents and shrt summary fr each chapter, including case studies list and is due ne mnth after cntract signing. UNWTO Authr Guidelines The reprt shall fllw the UNWTO Authr Guidelines Final Reprt The final reprt shuld be a publicatin-ready Reprt. The reprt shuld adhere t UNWTO Authr Guidelines. Layut will be prepared by the UNWTO. PwerPint presentatin with main cnclusins The authr shuld prepare a PwerPint with main cnclusins f the Reprt.
