There are over 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK. Almost two thirds have a disability and one third rely on others for help, making stroke one of the biggest causes of disability. We are continually working to improve the lives of stroke survivors and their families who deserve the very best treatment and care. We deliver amazing, life-changing support to over 60,000 stroke survivors and their families each year. We also fund research to find better treatments, campaign for better stroke care and help people understand how to spot and prevent stroke. This work is made possible by more than 4,000 talented volunteers and staff, our fantastic supporters and our strong relationships with the stroke clinical and research community. 2 Together we can conquer stroke. Directorate The Marketing and External Affairs Directorate plays a vital role in delivering our strategy. We provide strategic leadership for engagement and stewardship of key audiences through an integrated, results orientated approach. Working alongside Fundraising, Research and Information, and Services, we deliver leadership and expertise in marketing, brand, public affairs, PR, event management, communication, creative services and digital to deliver the charity s vision. Purpose of role The Content and Development Manager (My Stroke Guide) will identify new content and oversee the production of all media and online resources for My Stroke Guide: our self-management website designed by stroke survivors, for stroke survivors. The Content and Development Manager will ensure content is engaging, of high quality and produced and updated on schedule. The role reports to the Head of Digital and works closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders including technical providers and stroke survivors. You will ensure the successful creation and implementation of future versions of My Stroke Guide and scope out, test and implement new developments. In partnership with our Stroke Information Service, a dedicated enquiry line has been established, and you will have an active role in advancing and maintaining this. The Content and Development Manager will identify new types of content, media and methods of communication and will be positioned as advisor on creating accessible content online across the organisation. 4 Work closely with Research, Marketing and External Affairs teams to maintain accurate records and to contribute to the review of our information materials and production processes to ensure they remain relevant and fit for purpose Examples of collaboration and outcomes Editorial policies followed Collaboration Communicating and influencing Work closely with the Business Manager (My Stroke Guide) and colleagues in the digital team to communicate requirements, oversee technical developments, test changes and updates, and ensure that these are communicated to service users, funders and commissioners. 7 Person specification Education Educated to degree level or equivalent or have relevant experience Willingness to undertake training and continuing professional development / Desirable Experience Demonstrable experience of sourcing, critically appraising and writing copy in different styles for a variety of audiences Experience of working with web developers Experience of engaging with users to deliver fit for purpose information materials Experience of producing accessible information for people with disabilities Experience of managing multiple projects at the same time, delivering to tight deadlines Experience of meeting internal and external quality standards, such as the Department of Health Information Standard Experience of successfully managing a diverse team to deliver projects on schedule Experience of working in the voluntary sector Desirable Desirable 7

8 Skills and abilities Ability to communicate effectively face to face, in writing, by , on the telephone, including public speaking Ability to use a range of IT products including Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and Content Management Systems Ability to initiate and organise projects through to completion The ability to write, edit and proofread to a very high standard with meticulous attention to detail Able to communicate complex matters of a technological nature clearly and concisely using appropriate methods to a wide spectrum of people, including staff and users Ability to work with internal and external teams at all levels to seek the best for stroke survivors Creativity and drive to constantly improve My Stroke Guide and the overall user experience Proven analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to turn feedback into actions Ability to think strategically, work independently and prioritise own workload Understanding of the lifecycle of the film making process Desirable 8
