Our Values Reflecting Christian Hospitality, the values of the Good Samaritan Society and Good Samaritan Canada are: - Healthy Relationships - Hospitable Environments - Servant Leadership THE OPPORTUNITY Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Vice President, Operations (VPO) is responsible for quality care and accommodations, financial performance, risk management and safety of all residents/clients and employees in all care homes and programs of The Good Samaritan Society (GSS) and Good Samaritan Canada (GSC). As a member of the Strategic Leadership Team, the VPO is responsible for the establishment and attainment of tactical and operational goals and plans with respect to care, service and plants consistent with the organizational strategic plan, budgetary parameters, and strategic goals. The VPO is a key representative with internal and external stakeholders and is responsible to promote a positive image of the organization and to facilitate collaborative relationships with the organization. Additionally, the VPO is responsible for leading and mentoring a skilled team of leaders and for fostering a positive culture that supports the growth of both the organization and its employees in alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the GSS/GSC. GSS/GSC is committed to achieving and maintaining excellence in health, safety, wellness and the environment in all its operations. Maintaining a safe working culture is everyone s responsibility. The VPO will continually identify, assess, report and control possible risks to his or her health and safety and that of our employees, volunteers, contractors, residents/clients, and the public within the communities in which we operate. Accountabilities and Responsibilities Strategic Input and Planning Leads and coordinates the planning, execution and oversight of strategic initiatives and operations for the homes and programs including strategic planning, achieving results within budget, resident/client risk

3 management, quality indicator reporting and analytics, business and resident/client/family satisfaction, and resident/client/employee safety, and quality care and accommodations. Works in partnership with the President and CEO and the senior leadership team to coordinate and execute strategic planning, annual budgeting and other organization-wide initiatives. Leverages strong partnerships with key decision makers to ensure cross-organizational and cross-functional alignment and synergies. Operational Accountability Drives operational excellence across the organization, refining and/or creating scalable systems and processes while achieving and maintaining quality standards. Directs development and implementation of operational procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow and to support the overall management control systems. Responsible to oversee and monitor resident, client and employee safety and to create and implement action plans to mitigate any risk. Financial Accountability Reviews financial reports, submits to annual budget process, monitors financial performance, and ensures financial targets are met. Utilizes financial data to make fiscally responsible decisions and recommendations in line with organizational plan objectives. Recommends and implements effective strategies for the financial well-being and advancement of GSS/GSC operationally. Communications and Stakeholder / Relationship Management Supports and/or leads and collaboratively develops communication strategies for internal and external stakeholders. Oversees or coordinates initiatives to enhance resident/client experience and ensure consistency across care homes and programs. Leads and/or represents the GSS/GSC and its residents/clients/employees on external committees and at events. Establishes, promotes and maintains lasting relationships with external and internal stakeholders such as donors, residents/clients, GSS/GSC members, families, employees and other partners. Change Management Demonstrates strong leadership and assumes responsibility as an agent of change, building support for planned and implemented changes. Develops and drives organizational change initiatives that leads to organizational effectiveness, best practice, and innovations and that to changing trends in the advancement of the sectors in which the organization provides care and/or service. Mission, Vision and Values Commits to supporting the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization. Human Resources Responsible for human resource management at the operational level.

4 Recruits, retains, motivates, develops and manages performance of competent staff. Effectively deploys, organizes, directs, and evaluates staff. Connects strategy to day-to-day activities and updates teams on a regular basis. Ensures compliance with legislation, collective agreements, Terms and Conditions, labour and employee relations training and standardization, and organizational policies, procedures and programs. Organizational Health and Safety Applies operational policies and procedures and employs organizational systems designed to assure safety of residents/clients and employees, environmental and infection control standards in all operations. Develops, establishes, maintains and ensures compliance with operational policies, procedures, and systems with respect to Disability Management, Occupational Health and Safety and Workers Compensation. THE PERSON Qualifications and Education Requirements A Master s Degree or equivalent experience in business administration, healthcare administration or related field with relevant administrative experience in a health sector or in a long-term care home setting. A health care professional designations i.e. RN Ten years of operational and administration experience in large and complex healthcare organizations, with continued growth in responsibilities and increased complexity of roles, the last five years in a senior management level position. Minimum five years leadership experience related to health care preferably in long-term care. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Stakeholder Relations: Able to deal effectively with a diverse group of individuals including senior executives, the Board Directors, government and community executives, and staff (management, and front line); ability to develop and cultivate strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Business and Political Acumen: Possesses a keen business sense for financial, operational, and personnel matters. Understands the role government plays in healthcare, housing and continuing care, and is astute in the means that secure the ends. Communication Skills: Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as active listening skills; has a professional approach and demeanour; maintains an individual s dignity and self-worth during conversations; demonstrates the ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner. A strategic communicator who is able to modify approach depending on the audience. Organizational Skills: Excellent organization skills to work on numerous projects and coordinate multiple activities. Meets deadlines and is able to prioritize a diverse workload. Well-developed project management skills; ability to plan, manage, facilitate and participate in a number of projects at once. Proactive and responsive; approaches responsibilities with a high degree of energy and passion. Energetic & Adaptable: Prepared to take on longer-term initiatives and does so with enthusiasm; ability to adapt to new and changing situations; able to alter course/direction when necessary; enjoys and embraces new challenges. Flexible; able to deal with stress effectively. Professional: High degree of integrity both personal and professional; honest, sincere, dependable, trustworthy.

The position is located in Edmonton and will require the candidate to eventually relocate and reside in the region.
