Grup Caching Fr Accelerated Develpment What Grup Caching Is (And Isn t) First, grup caching is nt training where participants get ff- the shelf cntent delivery that may r may nt relate t their biggest challenges. It s a safe frum f fur r six participants, where they feel cmfrtable enugh t share anything, knwing that the cach and their peer caches will help them address their biggest challenges. Participants benefit nt nly frm the lead cach, but frm the cllective experience f their peers. The prgram runs abut fur mnths, and cnsists f tw face- t- face, day- lng meetings at the beginning and end f the prgram, with six grup cnversatins in between, and up t six cnversatins with a partner they select in the kick- ff meeting. Pre- prgram: Elements: Cach gathers input frm participants managers abut what they hpe the participant gets ut f the experience. Participant cmpletes a bi and an Enneagram assessment (An nline 360 assessment is ptinal) Kick- ff: The grup meets fr a pwerful day, where they build trust and relatinship, learn fundatinal skills, and select tw develpment gals (ne persnal and ne prfessinal). Participants chse a partner wh will supprt them thrughut the prgram. Grup Cnversatins: Participants and cach cnvene every tw weeks via phne r web- ex t share prgress and wrk thrugh challenges. Caches present custmized, relevant cntent (mdels, framewrks, etc.) that address current challenges and develpment gals. 2 One- On- One With the Lead Cach: Participants can have a private cnversatin with the Lead Cach at any time during the prgram. Optinally, clients can add a perid f ne- n- ne, pst- prgram calls t help deepen new habits. Clse: The grup cnvenes in persn fr a day f reflectin, cnnectin, and t lay ut a plan fr n- ging develpment. 3 Client Success Stries Cntext A Senir Vice President wanted us t help him develp his high perfrming middle- managers. One- n- ne caching fr Vice Presidents and abve had brught many benefits t the rganizatin, but it wasn t financially feasible t assign a cach t arund 200 managers wh were vital t the rganizatin s success. All managers had access t traditinal training prgrams, but he wanted a prgram that was mre than just ne r a few days, and that wuld truly help peple transfrm and be mre prductive, better cmmunicatrs and influencers, and less stressed, and less reactive. In the first rund launch, we ran fur grups separately and cncurrently. Here are sme f the success stries that represent typical grup caching utcmes. Grup caching reduced flight risk and helped retain talented Directrs:! One high- perfrming Directr with a lng track recrd at the cmpany was starting t feel disengaged because f sme challenges balancing persnal life circumstances and the demands f his travel schedule. With the assistance f the peers in his grup, and the Cach, he figured ut hw t reframe his rle and his team's rle in the rganizatin, creating new pprtunities fr him that re- energized and deepened his level f engagement at the cmpany.! Anther leader was n the edge f burnut. He d given t much time/energy t the wrk and realized with the team s help: 1) the wrk is simply the wrk, it will be always be there 2) hw t shw up t meet it and deal with t much f it, bth fr the leader and his team. It was a cllective lessn fr all. Grup caching accelerated a new Directr s ability t lead a team f frmer peers within a newly frmed rganizatin:! One Directr had recently been prmted int a new rle under a different VP. She was nw being asked t lead/manage peple wh were previusly her peers and she was in a brand new grup whse purpse/charter was still unclear. As a new leader she was struggling with leading in an ambiguus envirnment and asserting herself with peple wh were previusly her peers. With peer caching frm her grup and her cach she was able t gain cnfidence and clarity n hw t rganize and mtivate her grup. Recently prmted t an Executive Directr, ne leader received sme critical feedback that his management style was t aggressive. The self- awareness and the interpersnal/cllabratin skills he began t develp in Grup Caching enabled him t shift his behavirs.! One ambitius, high- perfrming Directr was becming unsure as t whether the cmpany was the right place fr him. He felt like he culdn t grw beynd his area and he didn t have a strng netwrk. In the kickff, his style was egtistical and aggressive. The cach partnered him with a buddy wh was his ppsite stylistically. She was burning ut frm being t much f a peple pleaser, and nt creating spaces fr her t fcus n her wn, mst imprtant wrk. They learned frm each ther and became clse cnfidants. He became warmer and she became adept at setting bundaries. The members f the grup intrduced him t thers at the cmpany and he made a great impressin as a warm, helpful, expert. He attributes his newfund engagement and netwrk t participatin in the grup.! A Directr learned she was a type 3 n the Enneagram the High Perfrmer, always fcused n the next gal. In the kickff, she explained that she had difficulty shwing any vulnerability, and was amazed at hw pen and trusting she and thers were in the kickff, even thugh they just met. The grup prvided a safe place fr her t shw mre f her real self, and t practice apprpriate vulnerability. She nw regularly gets psitive feedback abut her cmmunicatin and leadership skills, and her emplyees are mre frthcming abut their challenges. Withut the grup as a safe place t try new behavirs, this type f change can take 9-12 mnths.! A Directr gt feedback that she needed t be mre vcal and curageus in meetings with senir level stakehlders. With the supprt f her peers and cach she began practicing curageus asks which resulted in her getting additinal needed resurces n her team t fill needed gaps. Withut the caching f the grup she wuld have either tughed it ut r asked mre tentatively which may have resulted in less effective utcmes. Grup caching helped a participant accelerate his ability t develp his staff and grw a Successr:! One high- perfrming Directr struggled t delegate and grw a successr, particularly given the high- quality utput peple had cme t expect frm him. The cach, and anther member f the grup wh excelled at develping thers, were able t help him strategize ways t better help his emplyee stretch int the rle. In just a few mnths, this leader was able t instill cnfidence in this emplyee and thers, resulting in a prmtin and expanded rle fr him, and allwing his direct reprt t take ver his frmer rle. This leader cntinues t supprt her withut taking n the wrk himself. He had been struggling fr mnths with this issue and attributes this sudden success t his time with the grup. She attributes much f her shwing up differently and readiness t hw the grup and her Cach supprted the refinement f her leadership skills during the grup caching sessins.! Anther leader was immediately nminated t participate in the highly selective Sr. Leadership Prgram within a week f cmpleting ur 3- mnth milestne f grup caching. He reprts feeling very grunded.! A high- perfrming Directr with a lng track recrd at the cmpany was feeling disengaged because his rle had grwn pedestrian and predictable. Happy t help thers, but didn t want t ask fr themselves. 2) We did a teach/talk/discussin arund this and he built a strategy and plan beginning with his manager t have imprtant crucial cnversatins regarding future advancement and what prjects might help t retain him in his current rle. This was ne f the best experiences I've had in my career. I just can't say enugh psitive regarding this prgram. It is ne f the best leadership prgrams I have been a part f. I am very grateful that I had the pprtunity t participate in this prgram. I have many tls I can use t cntinue t imprve my leadership skills and the skills f my staff. The hnesty and transparency that the team cmmitted t was amazing. Denise's ability t bring the team tgether and make us really pull apart the imprtant items was great. It was a safe envirnment t speak freely and hnestly and challenge the status qu, and get at the rt f issues; t recgnize successful and unsuccessful patterns f behavir, and start t develp tls that will help me achieve my prfessinal and persnal gals; t listen t the challenges r thers, and brrw tls and tactics.
