3 Hw did we respnd? Suthend and Basildn trusts created Suth Essex Pathlgy Services (SEPS) SEPS bid fr hub status within suth Essex fr cmmunity GP pathlgy submitted January 2012, but was nt awarded preferred bidder status. GP cmmunity pathlgy wrk was awarded t CPS (Bedfrd, Lutn and Dunstable, West Herts, Harlw) with samples travelling t a hub labratry in Bedfrd. CCGs had cncerns and withdrew befre the cntract was signed. Suthend and Basildn trusts renewed cmmitment t develping a shared pathlgy service, and prpsed the frmatin f a new rganisatinal entity: Ntice placed in OJEU seeking third party t wrk with us t deliver pathlgy services A cmpetitive dialgue prcess A prcess led by us t wrk with partner with ur visin and appetite fr service develpment

5 Integrated Pathlgy Partnerships (ipp) Established in ipp wrks in partnership with UK healthcare rganisatins t maintain and strengthen the quality, delivery and efficiency f lcal pathlgy services. Cmmitted t lng-term investment in the delivery f lcal services, with a fcus n quality and imprving services. ipp is part f Labc, a leading medical diagnstics grup that perates ver 300 labratries in six Eurpean cuntries, perfrming analyses fr mre than 10 millin patients a year. The Trusts will have access t internatinal best practice and state-f-the-art technlgy as part f a much wider Eurpean netwrk.

6 Rle f ipp in the Jint Venture ipp will deliver the fllwing: Over 10m investment cmmitted t develp a new, fully accredited, lcal hub labratry, undertaking efficient prcessing f rutine and nn-urgent testing t maintain and imprve existing turnarund times. Refurbished labratry facilities n each hspital site t undertake all urgent testing (rapid respnse labratries); State-f-the-art, labratry equipment with ptimised layut and the deplyment f internatinal best wrking practices t ensure mst efficient use f time and resurces; Emplyment f and nging develpment f pathlgy staff t prvide testing (Cnsultant Pathlgists will cntinue t be emplyed by the Trusts); Fully integrated IT systems utilised between labratries and referral sites including GP practices; and Lgistics between GP surgeries, cmmunity sites and the labratries, prviding an end-t-end pathlgy service.

7 ipp s Track Recrd ipp is a credible and prven partner fr the NHS ipp is partnered with Tauntn and Smerset NHS Fundatin Trust and Yevil District Hspital NHS Fundatin Trust Jint venture (Suthwest Pathlgy Services) established in 2012 t deliver full labratry services t a ppulatin f 500,000 and ver 100 GP Practices in Smerset. Investment t deliver a high quality and reliable service. ipp s existing UK labratries are registered and regulated in the same way, and t the same standard, as the pathlgy services at Basildn and Suthend are tday, e.g. Clinical Pathlgy Accreditatin (CPA) Medicines and Healthcare Regulatry Authrity (MHRA) ipps labratries are required t be registered and regulated by the Care Quality Cmmissin (CQC). The new service will als have the additinal requirement fr registratin with the CQC frm August ipps existing UK labratries have already successful cmpleted CPA, MRHA and CQC inspectins pst transitin frm the NHS and passed with n critical r majr nn cnfrmances.
