Our UK team of experts develop and apply cutting-edge data science approaches to clinical, biological, genomic and other multi-dimensional health data to address the most pressing health research challenges facing the public. Our mission is to make game-changing improvements in the health of patients and populations through data science research and innovation. For the first time we are bringing together our unique nationwide data assets and specialists across academia, research and healthcare to unlock knowledge and deliver new insights from molecule to man. About the Digital Innovation Hubs Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH) will help connect regional health and care data with biomedical data in secure environments. This will pave the way for NHS, academic researchers and industry innovators to harness scientific knowledge and emerging technologies to develop new drugs and devices and improve health services. Funded through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, the Digital Innovation Hubs will be led by Health Data Research UK.

2 Between three and five hubs will be created across the UK over the next three years to enable innovation that will have a long-lasting impact on improving the health of the public. The hubs will provide safe, secure and controlled environments for data and enable NHS clinicians to work together with health researchers, data scientists, computer scientists, ethicists, social scientists and the public. Purpose of the post The DIH Engagement and Events Manager will be a key member of the HDR UK team, working with audiences across academia, NHS, industry, the charity sector and the public to support delivery of the Digital Innovation Hub programme. The role will be integral to developing and implementing the engagement strategy and events for the DIH programme, working under the guidance of the HDR UK Communications and Marketing Director and the DIH Programme Director. Main responsibilities Develop and implement the DIH engagement strategy to support the delivery of the DIH programme and in line with the HDR UK communications and engagement approach Work with the DIH team at HDR UK to identify, map and prioritise audiences and determine effective routes and channels for engagement Maintain the stakeholder database for the DIH programme Plan and organise high quality events; securing dates, venues, high profile speakers and promoting these to our target audiences Build and maintain relationships with colleagues in industry, academia, healthcare and government Use tools to evaluate the effectiveness of events and other engagement activities Explore and use innovative techniques and channels to engage with hard-to-reach groups and generate interest in events and other activities Develop messaging to ensure the DIH programme is clearly articulated to a wide range of audiences, including academics, healthcare professionals, industry colleagues and the public Produce high quality marketing materials to support the DIH aims and deliverables Work with the HDR UK communications team to produce engaging content in the form of case studies, news stories, videos and podcasts Ensure written materials about the DOH programme are engaging and up to date Ensure projects are delivered within set budgets Ensure all communication materials produced for HDR UK adhere to the brand guidelines, helping to ensure the reputation of HDR UK and its partners are maintained Planning and organising This post is part of a small team that will deliver the Digital Innovation Hub programme. The DIH Engagement and Events Manager will be responsible for planning and delivering all engagement activities to meet the demands of the DIH programme. This will require significant planning and organisational skills to ensure work is delivered within deadline and to budget. At the same time, the post holder will require a

3 flexible approach to work to changing demands of the core team and based on external changes. The post holder will be expected to travel regularly throughout the UK therefore time management will be important. Problem solving The DIH Engagement and Events Manager will be expected to use problem solving skills to respond to the diverse demands on the team. As part of a small team, the post holder will operate with autonomy and must be confident in responding to enquiries from colleagues at a senior level both within and external to HDR UK. Managing expectations and demands of key stakeholders, including senior members of government, will be a requirement. The post holder will make an effective judgement on when to escalate issues to senior colleagues attention and with what urgency. Decision making The post-holder will make all day-to-day operational decisions for their own workload and on behalf of the institute, where required. With support from the DIH Programme Director and Director of Communications and Marketing, the DIH Engagement and Events Manager will identify, initiate and develop opportunities for collaborative working with the members of the HDR UK community, relevant national and international partners and organisations. Key contacts/relationships The post holder will build and maintain effective working relationships both within HDR UK, with the DIHs, with partners in substantive site and with other key stakeholders. The DIH Project Manager will have close working relationships with the DIH Programme Director and Director of Communications and Marketing as well as other members of the DIH and HDR UK leadership teams. Knowledge, skills and experience Essential Experience Experience of creating and delivering engagement strategies and plans Proven track record of running successful events from start to finish, including promotional activity and follow-up communications Demonstrable expertise of building and developing networks with internal and external contacts, to enable mutually beneficial partnerships Experience of managing issues under time pressure, ensuring statements and briefing materials are prepared Project management expertise with a proven track record of delivering challenging projects on deadline Ability to demonstrate an understanding of health research and the needs of relevant audiences Experience of producing high quality content for online and offline channels Experience of managing suppliers Skills

4 Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and confidently with people at all levels Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive issues positively Ability to explain concepts without technical jargon Excellent relationship building and networking skills Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment Ability to work accurately with attention to detail Ability to work as part of a team Ability to work autonomously and make decisions without supervision Ability to process complex information and present targeted messages to different audiences Confidence to advise spokespeople on messages and challenging situations A proactive approach, with the ability to use initiative in problem-solving and dealing with urgent event or communications issues Desirable Educated to degree level Professional qualification in events and/or engagement Experience of working in research or academia Experience of multidisciplinary team working Dimensions This is a full-time role. Frequent travel will be required across the UK to HDR UK Sites, other locations and partner organisations. A weekly presence is required at the head office in London (minimum two days a week) You can build effective relationships and networks of individuals and organisations, including volunteers, senior levels of management in health, social care and industry as well as developing information systems that facilitate the smooth running of such networks.
