1 MODEL CLAUSES FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKS SECTION 70 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PILING NOTES TO SPECIFIER: These notes do not form part of the Specification. Generally 70.1 Sections provide a specification for piling works based on the "ICE Specification for Piling and Embedded Retaining Walls" (2nd Edition, 2007) hereinafter referred to as the ICE Specification. The Model Clauses in these Sections are qualifications, amendments or additions to the ICE Specification. Particular Specifications The specifier should refer to the ICE Specification (including the applicable guidance notes); BS EN and the NA to BS EN ; and Non-Contradictory Complementary Information in BS 8004 prior to compiling the Contract Specification Appendix Clauses for piling works Within the various sections of the ICE Specification reference is made to the Particular Specification. The Model Clauses in Sections can be considered to provide the Particular Specification in respect of: amendments, qualifications, deletions or additions to the ICE Specification, reference to relevant Contract Drawings, particular requirements for piling in a railway environment. No Model Clauses have been provided that could be considered as providing a Particular Specification for: site specific requirements, pile specific requirements, specific requirements for pile testing. The specifier should determine such requirements for inclusion as the Particular Specification Appendix Clauses with reference to the relevant section and corresponding guidance notes in the ICE Specification. 2 The following matters required in the ICE Specification, section B1, to be described in a Particular Specification should be included elsewhere within the Contract, and are therefore not needed within the Appendix Clauses of a Particular Specification for piling works: Supervising Officer (Employer s Representative), Location and description of the Site, Nature of the Works, Working area, Sequence of the Works, Other works proceeding at the same time, Contract Drawings, Office and other facilities for the Employer's Representative, Site datum and site grid, Restrictions on permissible working hours, including details of absolute possessions, protection T(II), and isolations available for the piling work, Details of ground investigation reports. The Particular Specification for materials and testing requirements for reinforced concrete within concrete piles should be provided by the inclusion in the Contract Specification of relevant Model Clauses from Section 80 (Structural concrete). Similarly for steel piles, the Particular Specification for materials and testing requirements for steel should be provided by the inclusion in the Contract Specification of relevant Model Clauses from the applicable steelwork Section, i.e. Section 90 (Structural steelwork), Section 140 (Steelwork hot rolled sections) or Section 141 (Steelwork cold formed sections). Where a default has been provided in the ICE Specification, the default has been assumed to apply, and no Particular Specification requirement included. Pile design by the Contractor 70.3 Clause has been written to invoke Option 2 in the ICE Specification, clause B1.4, thereby assuming that the Contractor will design the piles but not the complete Works. --````,``,,,,,```,,``,`````,``-`-`,,`,,`, Page 2 of 7

3 Where the piles are to be designed by the Engineer, full details should be included in the Contract Drawings, and the relevant Specification Appendix Clauses to invoke Option 1 and to provide the information required for Option 1. 4 SECTION 70 Pile layout, design and construction Indicate Option 1 or 2 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PILING 70/1 Further to ICE Specification, clause B1.4, Option..shall apply. The piles shall be designed in accordance with the recommendations of BS EN and the NA to BS EN , where required Non-Contradictory Complementary Information in BS 8004, and the following: Where long-term settlement is expected to occur (i) (ii) the design life of the structure shall be.. years, the permitted vertical and the horizontal pile head deflections for the specified design verification loads shall be in accordance with Schedule 70/A. Where Option 1 Engineer design under ICE clause B1.4 applies, the Contractor shall construct the piles as specified and provide the Engineer with a schedule of pile sizes and lengths before the commencement of the installation of the working piles. The Employer s Representative shall be provided with No. copies of the drawings showing the complete pile design, and pile arrangement. (70.002) Work Package Plan 70/2 The programme of submission for the Work Package Plan shall be submitted to the Engineer's Representative for acceptance not less than weeks before the programmed start of the relevant work. (70.007) Page 4 of 7

5 Piling programme 70/3 The minimum period of notice to be given to the Engineers' Representative is.hours. (70.008) Record drawings 70/4 Upon acceptance of the record drawings for approval by the Engineer, the Contractor shall incorporate amendments made by the Engineer and provide No. copies of the final drawings. (70.010) Supervision and control of the piling works References Note to specifier 70/5 The Contractor shall submit his Quality Plan for the Works weeks prior to commencement of piling works. (70.012) 70/REF The following are amendments and additions to the References provided in 70C. (References) The specifier shall include here details of all references included in Section 70 of the Model Clauses that have been superseded since Section 70 was last issued. Page 5 of 7

6 SECTION 70 PILING SCHEDULE 70/A Performance criteria for piles Identification of pile or pile group Specified working load per pile (unfactored) Vertical kn Horizontal kn Moment knm Maximum permissible pile head deflection (mm) Vertical mm Horizontal mm SCHEDULE 70/B Preliminary pile tests Pile Size Type Length Number of piles to be tested DVL SWL Pile test type Note to specifier Refer to ICE Specification for type of pile test to be selected. For Contractor designed piles, the specified working load (SWL) should agree with the specified working load specified in Section 70 (General requirements for piling), and the design verification load (DVL) should be left blank. 7 SCHEDULE 70/C Working pile tests Location Type/ size Length Number of piles to be tested DVL SWL Pile test type Note to specifier The position of the piles should be defined in general terms such as north abutment. Pile type should be raking, tension or compression. For the type of pile test refer to the ICE Specification. For Contractor designed piles, only the location, number of piles to be tested and type of test, and other details where shown on the Contract Drawings should be specified. Page 7 of 7
