DURATION: September December BUDGET: 10,000 (r apprx. 11,200). DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: Wednesday 5 th September 2018 at 10 AM GMT. Backgrund and Cntext The Travel Fundatin The Travel Fundatin (TF) is an independent charity that wrks in partnership with turism stakehlders t have a psitive impact n destinatins - enabling lcal cmmunities, the envirnment and businesses t thrive. Since 2003 we have wrked in 24 cuntries and implemented ver 35 sustainable turism prjects and prgrammes. TF s visin is f a wrld where turism prvides the greatest benefits fr peple and the envirnment in destinatins and its missin is t increase the benefits and reduce the negative impacts f turism in destinatins. T achieve this, we develp and implement turism initiatives that prmte crss-sectr cllabratin, build lcal capacity and enable the lng-term incrpratin f sustainable practice. The Turkey Prgramme The Travel Fundatin (TF) has been wrking in Turkey, delivering sustainable turism prjects in the Fethiye- regin, a ppular turism destinatin, since 2009, including Taste f Fethiye ( ), an award-winning agri-turism linkages prject. Given the success f this prject which created market linkages between fresh agricultural prducers and lcal htels, TF in partnership with the TUI Care Fundatin (TCF) intends t build n this and develp a new initiative that fcuses n cnnecting prducers f added-value prducts t the main turism resrts acrss Mugla Prvince. The Prject The purpse f the prject is t supprt small rural families in the Mugla regin t increase their livelihds security thrugh the supply f value-added prducts (i.e. agricultural prducts which are dried, prcessed etc.) t the turism industry. These prducts are likely t include salad ils and vinegars, dried vegetables, dairy, csmetics, etc. making best use f, and shwcasing the regin s diversified agricultural prduce such as lives, pmegranates and traditinal herbs. The prject will develp market linkages fr these and ther prducts within the main resrts in Mugla, (Fethiye, Dalaman, Marmaris and Bdrum), and will fcus n supplying htels and ther turism businesses. The Brief 1

2 Need & purpse Previus research (Suth Aegean Develpment Agency GEKA) evidenced the ptential fr the prductin and sales f added-value prducts t the turism industry in the Mugla Regin, but it als highlighted the need t imprve packaging and marketing t meet retail standards, as well as prduct develpment and business management capacity. At this initial stage f the prject, befre market linkages can be created, a detailed understanding f the ptential supply f, and demand fr, added-value prducts by turism businesses is required, hence this ITT. The TF wishes t cntract a cnsultant(s) t deliver a market research study which will enable it: T better understand the current situatin in relatin t what value-added prducts are prduced in the regin, and what is currently and culd ptentially be supplied t turism businesses (htels, restaurants and retail utlets) T better understand the current situatin in relatin t what value-added prducts are prcured by turism businesses in the regin T better understand the distributin systems and pricing f added-value agricultural prducts in the area T identify and engage prductin units (prducers rganized as cperatives, assciatins, SMEs, cmmunity grups, etc.) and turism businesses with the mst ptential (mtivatin, feasibility) t supply/prcure these prducts. T understand the current capacity f added-value prducers in the regin and identify training needs, t better equip them t meet the prcurement needs f the htels. Apprach / Methdlgy TF will prduce a list f target turism businesses and prductin units t invlve in the research and intrduce them t the cnsultant(s). The criteria used t priritize target businesses/units will be prvided t the cnsultant(s) as backgrund infrmatin. If apprpriate, we wuld expect the cnsultant(s) t suggest relevant ptential targets frm existing relatinships established with the targeted sectrs and/r the prject area. TF will als prvide the cnsultant(s) with a list f infrmatin t be gathered and questins t be answered fr bth the supply and demand side, including sme key distributrs. The cnsultant(s) is expected t: Develp apprpriate research instruments (e.g. survey/interview questins) based n the infrmatin prvided by TF t include bth qualitative and quantitative data - t be apprved by TF. Define a detailed wrkplan (including the resurces, especially persnnel wh will cnduct the wrk and a detailed timeframe) t be apprved by TF. Organise and hld meetings with the targeted prductin units, distributrs and turism businesses in rder t gather market research infrmatin using the research instruments develped. The research shuld invlve arund 75 turism businesses (mainly htels), t be delivered acrss 20 days apprximately, and 30 added-value prductin units (including sme farmers wrking with the prductin units, where required) and up t 10 distributrs, - an additinal maximum f 20 days delivery. 2
