2 Northwest Territories Tourism Northwest Territories Tourism (NWTT) is the designated Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) working on behalf of the NWT Tourism Industry. Responsible to over 200 tourism business members, NWTT promotes pan-territorial tourism, industry education and the marketing of all sectors of tourism in the NWT locally, nationally and internationally. Board of Directors NWTT is led by a Board of Directors with 14 members seven elected members representing diverse sectors of the NWT tourism industry, one appointed member from each of the six First Nations Governments in the NWT and one appointed member from Industry, Tourism and Investment Department, Government of the Northwest Territories.

3 Vision Statement To develop a dynamic partnership of industry and government in support of our vital, viable and sustainable industry by marketing tourism and providing support to tourism operators and communities in the NWT in a fair and equitable manner. Mission Statement To support the development of a strong tourism industry in the Northwest Territories for the benefit of visitors, our communities and our people, while protecting our environment and the northern way of life.

4 Our Staff: How We Accomplish Our Mission NWTT employs eight staff to address the marketing, communications and advocacy needs of its members, the GNWT and the NWT tourism sector. NWTT also has a sales agent for Europe, based in Switzerland. Executive Director: responsible to the board of directors, oversees the delivery of all programs and services in support of the NWT tourism industry, provides leadership to NWT Tourism staff. Marketing Director: promotes the NWT as a tourism destination domestically and internationally, develops and implements the annual marketing plan, works closely with the travel trade. Communications & Public Relations Coordinator: co-ordinates public relations and member communications, provides story ideas and organizes FAM tours for our key media partners. Marketing Assistant: provides assistance to the Marketing Director with special events, FAM tours and other promotions, assists with the production of in-house marketing publications.

5 Finance, Administration and Human Resources: performs daily financial and administrative duties, provides financial reporting and oversees the year end audit, manages human resources. Call Centre Coordinator: responds to requests for travel information for toll-free, on-line and consumer show inquiries, compiles reports on statistical data, manages the sales leads program. Receptionist: the front line person in the office to direct calls, distribute faxes and maintain all contact information on our members. General Sales Agent - Europe: promotes NWT as a tourism destination through sales calls, trade and consumer shows and educational seminars throughout German-speaking Europe. Fulfillment Officer: answers the more than 1000 phone, and fax requests per month for information about tourism in the NWT, coordinates timely mail-outs of promotional literature.

7 Advertising Send your message to the world The Spectacular NWT Explorers Guide, our marketing and communications centrepiece, promotes the NWT around the world. In this annual publication, visitors learn about our northern culture, past and present, including regional and community information, attractions, a calendar of events and maps. Free listings feature the name and contact information for your tourism business, its location, a photo and a concise informative write-up. With your NWTT membership, you are entitled to a 10% discount (up to $100) on all paid advertising you purchase to promote your operation plus complementary copies of the Guide. And: Enjoy the same free listings and advertising discounts in our specialty NWT guides Aurora, Fishing, Hunting and Outdoor Adventure that target key tourism markets.

8 Co-operative Advertising In a new initiative, NWTT purchases full-page full-colour ads in a variety of fishing, hunting, outdoor adventure touring and general interest magazines, newspapers and websites. NWTT members can capitalize on this spectacular global opportunity to feature their tourism business to a wider audience by purchasing space in this co-operative advertising endeavour. Member ads are formatted to maintain a uniform look and feel. Member ads are embedded into the NWT Tourism full-page ads, giving the participating operators greater exposure. Savings to you? Think about this Going it alone in Petersen s Hunting The 2007 rate card costs for a one-time full-page full-colour ad is $27,800. The rate for a stand alone 1/4 page full-colour ad is $12,790. Just for comparison, the rate for a 1 col x 1 inch black & white ad space is $910. 9 Marketing Take advantage of every media and sales opportunity Tourism Trade Shows Where NWTT goes, you go! We promote your tourism business at trade shows in Canada and around the world. Japan, the United States, Germany by displaying your posters and brochures at our booth. Are you attending a trade show!? We offer our members access to our Spectacular NWT banners and posters to help attract that extra attention for you at consumer trade shows. The NWT in Europe A part-time sales agent based in Europe works with NWTT to promote the NWT as a tourist destination and its tourism products. Through NWTT s representative, information about your tourism business reaches a European audience. Design and Web Services 1 NWTT members have a spectacular AD vantage! Through the NWTT agency of record (AOR), NWT members qualify for professional marketing-, design- and web-related services at a discount. Referral Services 2 As a key point of contact, NWTT receives inquiries from interested visitors, tour promoters and media writers on a daily basis looking for a wide variety of Spectacular NWT products and services. 10 Visual Library The NWTT visual library features over 2500 top quality images for use by NWTT and its members in developing and coordinating marketing materials. Members can access these materials for use in their own marketing brochures. Fam Tours NWTT hosts Media and Trade Familiarization Tours through the year showcasing the spectacular attractions, facilities and services available in the NWT. All NWTT members have the opportunity to participate in FAM tours, based on the criteria set for each tour. Sales Leads NWTT s marketing activities uncover and create spectacular business opportunities for members. All enquiries are categorized by interest (fishing, canoeing, etc.) and placed in a database. 12 Professional Development Stay up to date on every new tourism trend To advance professional development in tourism businesses, NWTT published two manuals for tourism training programs - Market Ready and On-line Marketing (plus an update). These valuable resources are made available at no cost to NWTT members. Advocacy Voicing your concerns NWTT wants to hear from its membership about issues that effect tourism businesses and the tourism sector. With your information, we can advocate for your needs. NWTT provides leadership and raises the profile of the tourism industry in the NWT through media, public relations and networking. We work cooperatively with government and the private sector on initiatives that improve facilities, services and attractions. NWTT partners with other tourism industry organizations - the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), Yukon Travel, Nunavut Tourism, Travel Alberta and Tourism BC - on projects that benefit the entire NWT as a growing and vibrant tourism destination, a great place to work, play and visit. At the same time, NWTT keeps its members up-to-date on the bigger picture of tourism in Canada and around the world.
