Mass Traffic Monthly Issue 01 Welcome to Mass Traffic Monthly, this newsletter is here to take care of all your traffic needs no matter what your site or traffic needs are. In this month s issue we re going to look at how to get traffic from Yahoo. This is a great traffic method as it can be used to drive traffic to any type of site but we can also use direct linking, a great method for driving affiliate traffic directly through your affiliate link. Inside we will - Show you how to flood your site with Yahoo traffic. - Show you how to direct link so you can rake in affiliate commissions without even a website. - Show you how to hide your affiliate link so no one can see you are making tons of commissions. - Show you how to save money by qualifying your leads before they click.

Getting started with Yahoo Yahoo offers a paid advertising service, where you will create ads that will be displayed next to the search results of the yahoo search engine when people search for your specified keyword(s). You will be charged only when someone clicks on your ad and is taken to the web page URL you specify. This is a great method to attract targeted visitors instantly to your website, there is no waiting around, as soon as your campaign is live you will see visitors hitting your site. The first step to getting started with Yahoo is to go sign up at the Yahoo Advertising page, you can do this by clicking on the link below: Once you have an account you will be able to log in and see the dashboard link in the image below. This screen gives you an overview of your current ads and campaigns. To create your first or any new campaigns simply click on the + Create Campaign button.

To create a new campaign you will need to follow these steps: To create killer ad copy you need to make your ad stand out from the crowd, here are the tactics I use: Use the search terms This is ad writing 101. If I search for Learn Guitar and your ad has that exact phrase in, like this example: Learn Guitar The Easy Way And the one below has: Learn to play the guitar the easy way? Which am I going to click? The first one of course. I typed in Learn Guitar so that is the term I am looking for and will be drawn to.

Even though both ads say the same thing because of the user s mindset they will click the first. Tip Remember that Yahoo bolds the search term in ads also so that will drive people s attention to the phrase searched. Remember that when setting up different ads and ad groups. We want each one targeted for both the ad copy and the keyword. This doesn t restrict the number of ads you can have. The Learn Guitar ad can target that keyword phrase as well as these: Learn Guitar Learn Guitar for beginners Learn Guitar the easy way etc. The Ad Make Up Just in case you haven t used any PPC sites before here is the basic ad make up of the Headline, Body & URL. We will refer to these in the next sections to talk you through great ad creation.

Headlines We mentioned eye catching already, right? The headline is the first thing that will draw attention so nailing this is key. The simplest way to come up with your starting title is to enter the keyword you are targeting into Yahoo and write down the top 5 headlines you see. Chances are at least 4 out of the 5 (if not all of them) will be saying the exact same thing in almost the same words. Why reinvent the wheel? These marketers will have done the hard work for us, they will have tested headlines and stuck with the ones that work the best. Thanks for that guys. Now all you need to do is re-write them using the keyword phrase and any other common words that are used. This will no doubt give you between 3 and 5 headlines. You will need to test these to see which performs the best. We will look at testing later in the strategy. This copy the competition method will give you highly clickable headlines that attract a high click through rate. Get Creative This is a follow on from point 2 (headlines). You will need to carry out that stage to set your own benchmark and stats for your headline. What we need to try and do next is beat that headlines performance and by beating that headline we beat the competitions. As you can guess things can go one way or the other here so follow these tips. They play on little psychological triggers that the human brain responds to: I Social Proof Social Proof is the same concept as that of: if the masses are doing it I should be too And... if so many people are using/doing it, it can t be bad, can it? So look to include words like Millions, Thousands or even a figure 16,987. So to look at our headlines again:

Millions use this to Learn Guitar How Thousands use this to Learn Guitar How 16,987 people Learn Guitar The numbers game is one that needs to be believable so don t go overboard. But this will definitely attract some attention. This type of headline works best for the beginners. They look for products that others use and jump on the same bandwagon. This type of search is not usually as effective for more focused terms, say if your search term used a certain style of guitar and a certain note or chord for example then they are looking for something more specific. II Eye Grabber This is a method that works well with any type of user but especially beginners searching the net. What we do is create something that will grab their attention in the headline. Like: Want to Learn Guitar? Don t bother. But then follow that up with text that will support your ad: You can only do it with this course. Find out how to Learn Guitar the easy way. Other variations that are proven to work are: Stop. Is this a mistake? Avoid [keyword] Is [keyword] a scam? These headlines will grab the attention of anyone searching for those terms. Test these in your market, one may do terrible while the next might rock and kill the competition. It is then easy to copy these types of ads to your other niches to see how well they work. III Mind Game Manipulation This method basically reverts around reverse-psychology. We use the same theory as above. We tell them not to do something in the headline and then follow up that statement with relevant text in our ad body. Stop trying to Learn Guitar Now! Don t buy [keyword], or Else. Looking for [keyword], Don t do it.

Again as before one of these could bomb while the next will rock. Test each one as it is very much a niche specific thing as to which words will trigger those specific users. IV Mega Benefits This is the method of giving the search term a value. If someone was to use a broad search term because they are not totally sure what they are looking for you can drag their attention to your ad. Based on the term guitar you can come up with the following: cheap guitars guitars from $?? cheap clearance guitar guitar sale These ads are very powerful if they are proven in a market. Do what we have been doing all along and Yahoo search your broad term. Look at the ads. Are people in your niche looking for cheap/clearance items? V Lazy Marketing This is really simple. Use this headline: looking for [keyword]? Yup it s that simple and works like a dream in a lot of different niches. Using these 5 points we are sure of creating headlines and ads that will have a high Click Through Rate (CTR). Add URLs To finish off the Ad We need to add two urls: The display URL has to be the same as the target or destination URL. There is no need to have any of the or www. in the display URL. It is also a good idea to capitalize the first letter of each word for example: LearnGuitarTuition As this makes it a lot easier to read. The destination URL will then be the exact URL that we want to send the user to.

Remember that when you set up multiple campaigns we will want to target specific pages on our websites. This will mean pointing different ads to different URLs. We don t want to point every ad on every campaign to the main home page of our website. Yahoo URL Trick What Yahoo does allow you to do is to have your domain name, say easyguitar.com and then add on something on the end. So I could add on /sale /discount Etc. All I have to do is make sure is that the page I am sending them to does actually involve a sale or discount. Adding these words on the end of domains will mean you catch the attention of people checking out the URL s in your ads. People who are looking for reputable domains will be triggered to click and check out the offers. Direct Linking & Hiding Your Affiliate Link This method enables you to direct link using Yahoo straight to affiliate offers without displaying an affiliate link in the ad. Instead we use a de-direct page. You will need to purchase a domain name to do this and there are two ways to approach this. 1) Go for a generic domain name that will work with all the pages and offers you want to target and advertise for. 2) Go for a specific domain for each topic (RECOMMENDED). I highly recommend choosing a domain for each market, in the example I have been using I would get a domain with the term guitar in the title, this makes my ad more appealing and more trustworthy. You will also need a very basic hosting package. I recommend going with Hostgator.com, they offer an unlimited package that you can host unlimited domains with.

Once you have that sorted you will need to create a simple HTML page. Don t worry I have given you all the code below: Start Code <html> <head> <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW"> <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=hoplink"> <title>page TITLE</title> </head> <body bgcolor="#ffffff"> </body> </html> End Code All you have to do is copy and paste the above code into notepad or a similar text editor. Replace the word HOPLINK with your affiliate link, and the text PAGE TITLE with a suitable title, this will only flash on screen in the title bar while the re-direct takes place. Once you have done that save the document, again using a keyword, in my example I would use either learn-guitar.html or guitar-sale.html etc depending on the ad I was running. Remember to type the name of the file and then type.html at the end, this will make sure that the page is saved as a web site file. All you have to do now is upload the file using FTP to your web space. A free FTP program that is easy to use is Filezilla - Keyword Setup When choosing keywords it is important to remember to only use one keyword per ad. Remember you will have multiple ads set up for different keywords so... Follow this rule: One Keyword per Ad

This allows us to target our ad specifically for the keyword term we want. Even if you are targeting a very similar keyword we will want a new ad for it. So we can target the ad specifically. It is small adjustments like these that will give you the better CTR and help you annihilate the competition. Setting Pricing This is where we get to do out first bit of testing. First of enter $20.00 or into the daily budget, this is purely for testing. Once we hit the right ad at the right cost we can open this up to our maximum. Next set a max CPC bid of around cents. We are aiming to target positions 2-3 or 2-5 in more competitive markets. We do not want position 1. Position 1 attracts a ton of click spam. People who just search terms and click randomly on the page and ads for no real reason at all. It also attracts people who are just surfing. We want people who are reading or at least scanning the page to click on our ad and come to check it out. You can now go back and edit your max CPC and check the results again. Now is the time to test, tweak and manage your ad campaigns. Testing There are multiple things that we will want to test and there is a certain way in which you should approach this. This is the method I have found to be the most profitable and quickest way to optimize your ads. It is also key in testing to follow this one simple rule: ONLY CHANGE ONE THING AT A TIME It s not rocket science but by changing multiple things at once we will never know which was the key factor in making the ad convert better. You are back to pretty much stabbing in the dark and this will only lead to one thing in PPC losing money (lots of it). The Split Test So far we only have one ad and that is not enough. What you should have done by this point is created what you think was your best combination of Headline, Ad Body Text and URL.

It s pretty straight forward when you think about it but all we are going to do is create the exact same ad, but to start with change the Headline. Leave the rest of the ad the same and run them along side each other for a set period of either time or investment. I like to run each until I have seen at least a thousand impressions or hit 100 clicks. Remember impressions cost you nothing. If you are not seeing a CTR of at least a couple of % after 1000 impressions then you need to look at changing the ad. These are the steps I take... See which ad has the better CTR. That one is the winner. Simple as that. Now what you need to do is test that one again... against another Headline. This will either quantify your findings that you have the better headline selected or merely prove that it was only better than the one it beat. The process can be slightly time consuming but this key stage will mean that when you find your killer ad for your given market you can open up the account and you will be able to leave it on auto pilot. After you have split tested your headline and finalised which one generates the better CTR you can then move onto the body text in the ad. You can generate different text to go with headline and again test one against the other and then the winner against the next variation. Some things to consider changing in the body text include: Different Call to Action This could include things like giving a deadline, stating there are only a few copies left, giving a bonus, having a trial period or simply stating that a full money back guarantee is in place. Keywords It s all about the keywords isn t it. Include them in the body, see if one of the LSI ones out performs the main one and try a few different ones. Remember we don t want to sound too robotic and mention the same keyword all the time. Ask a Question This will depend on the market you have chosen but works pretty well in most of my markets. Asking a question will entice the user, especially when you already know the answer is going to be Yes. Anyone who searched for my example term Learn Guitar is pretty much going to be nodding away to the ad that reads Do you want to Learn Guitar?

Trimming Down Your Traffic with Negative Qualifiers Negative qualifiers are terms that will put certain people off clicking on our ad but wait! There is a good reason for this. Take the example of hosting - you can get free hosting a lot of the time. Now if you are running an ad for a hosting company and you are say charging $2/month then you do not want to be paying for clicks from people looking for free hosting. What we do here is include the negative qualifier of the price in our body text. You can also use other negative qualifiers like gender if you are specifically targeting male or female markets or age if you targeting people of a certain age. Bet remember you can try to cut down most of these in your targeting when setting up the ad. Negative Qualifiers should be used to cut out the people you cannot cut out any other way. Once you have your ad that generates the highest CTR it is time to look at a few more factors that can either maximize or kill off a campaign. Location & Day Parting This may sound picky but running an ad in the UK, may not be the same as running the ad in the US. This goes for any country. Yes both countries are generally wealthy and primarily English speaking but you can see a totally different reaction to the same ad. What you want to do when you have your ad selected is run in one country. Then set up a new ad (same ad copy) in another country. Remember to target any country that has a need for your product. Keep in mind that the majority of Germans speak German as their first language, although a high percentage now speak English as well their browsers will be set to their first language. If you speak multiple languages or your key demographic do then either write or get some help writing and testing targeted ads in those languages. I always stick to my own language so test my ads in: Australia Canada New Zealand Rep. Of Ireland South Africa United Kingdom

United States The same add will often have higher CTR s in one country over another, you don t want to be paying for all of these so stop the ads that are not performing and keep the ones that are fetching you most of your business. Day Parting pretty much works the same as the other testing methods. It allows us to select what times of day the ads are shown. We can work out from out tests what times generate the highest CTR, but don t stop there. You will also need to compare your conversions at the different times of day. What we want to do is target the highest converting time and if by not running the ad at certain times of day we get rid of a lot of the clicks that don t convert then this will again leave is with a more profitable ad. In Summary I m going to keep this short so you can get started. But the key to successful PPC campaigns is testing. Once you have your profitable campaigns follow this motto. Keep the Best, Forget the Rest! Over time you will build a portfolio of profitable campaigns. Don t just stick to one campaign per niche, spread out. Plan on dominating the whole first page of Yahoo for your keyword.
