2 SmartSubs is a new fundraising opportunity for schools in partnership with local communities and The Dominion Post. Newspapers in the home The Dominion Post wants to encourage a healthy appetite for news amongst our up and coming readers and foster a greater awareness of developments and issues in the world around them. Regular exposure to The Dominion Post will not only achieve this but also support school based activities and projects. It will also put parents in a better position to answer their kids questions! How does it work? School pupils encourage family, friends or neighbours to subscribe for a SmartSubs subscription to The Dominion Post*. They will receive a Dominion Post subscription at 50% off the normal retail cover price for 26 weeks. When starting a subscription, they nominate a school. The Dominion Post will give the school $20 cash and $50 newspaper advertising credit for every SmartSub received. Each SmartSub = $20 cash + $50 advertising credit 50 SmartSubs = $1000 cash + $2,500 advertising credit *Applies to new subscribers only.

The Dominion Post will work with you to help set up SmartSubs within your school and community. Getting the cash! Cash donations are paid out quarterly and will be based on the number of SmartSub signups during the last 3 month period. Schools can either have the cash paid directly to a bank account or a cheque can be posted. Schools can spend their cash donation however they like. It s their choice. Using the advertising! Our professional team will assist you to book advertising space within The Dominion Post. Ads can be used to promote school fundraising activities such as fundraising events, school fairs or shows. This advertising will reach The Dominion Post s nearly 250,000 daily readers.

4 Subscription details SmartSubs subscribers not only give their nominated school a much needed boost, they also get a great discount on the retail cover price. A new SmartSubs subscription is 26 weeks at half the normal retail price*. There are many benefits to being a subscriber; the paper is delivered to your property six days a week, there are subscriber only offers and competitions, and a quarterly subscriber newsletter which includes fantastic subscriber discount coupons. Having a newspaper in the house is a great way to encourage your kids to have a hunger for current events and issues and to be better informed for class discussions and school projects. Of course, they can also read our weekly kids Presto section, and keep up with their favourite sports stars. 5 What can you do? SmartSubs can be an effective fundraiser, but it is all dependent on the extent to which you push it. The Dominion Post will be promoting SmartSubs to raise awareness of it, but its real success lies at the individual school level. SmartSubs should be regularly promoted in newsletters, websites and by word of mouth. By encouraging parents to take up or promote this great offer, the school and students will both benefit. 6 ADVERTISING CREDIT The Dominion Post reaches, on average, nearly 250,000 readers every day*. It s the No 1 newspaper in the lower North Island and a respected and trusted information source. You can use us to boost awareness of your schools fundraising activities. For each SmartSubs subscription, your school gets $50 (excl GST) worth of advertising in The Dominion Post. For example SmartSubs Advertising Credit Total 6 10 $50 x 6 $50 x 10 $300 $500 HOW TO BOOK AN AD Before you book an ad, you need to decide when you would like it to appear in the paper and what size your ad will be. This information needs to be ed to smartsubs@dompost.co.nz at least one week before the publication date.you will receive an with an ad number confirming your booking. Once confirmed your print ready ad needs to be ed to smartsubs@dompost.co.nz by midday the working day before publication, as a jpeg or pdf file. *Nielsen Media Research, qtr to December 2008.

11 TERMS AND CONDITIONS A SmartSubs subscription is 26 weeks at half the normal retail cover price. A SmartSubs subscription is only available to new subscribers, who have not been a subscriber for the last three months. A SmartSubs subscription has to be active for 6 months or more for the school to receive the donation. Donations are paid out to schools every 3 months. A SmartSubs subscription cannot be started in conjunction with other offers. SmartSubs is open to schools and other educational facilities in The Dominion Post s core circulation area. Normal subscriber terms and conditions apply. Rural delivery fees may apply in some areas. The Dominion Post may withdraw from the SmartSubs programme with three months notice. All cash credits owing will be paid, and advertising credit balances will be valid for 6 months beyond withdrawal notification date. SmartSubs ad bookings can only be made with SmartSubs advertising credit. Advertising credit can only be used to promote school fundraising type activities in The Dominion Post. Advertising credit must be used by the school for which it was nominated for and is only valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Advertising credit cannot be used against an existing advertising amount owed. The credit is not transferable or exchangeable for cash. All ad material is to be supplied as per the specified sizes in colour (CMYK) or black and white, colour ads will be subject to availability. The booking deadline is one week before publication date. Ad material deadline is 12 noon the working day before publication no credits will be given for missed material deadlines. Ad placements and dates are not guaranteed and may change without notice. All advertising credit is subject to The Dominion Post s advertising contra policy. The Dominion Post standard advertising terms and conditions apply.
