1 Publication Guidelines Virginia Highlands Community College The Virginia Highlands Community College logo is the College s most valuable brand asset. It is imperative that the logo be used properly to establish and preserve a unified brand identity. These guidelines are intended to provide guidance. 2 The Office of Public Relations & Marketing is charged with maintaining Publication Guidelines and a Logo Style Guide in an effort to create a unified public image for Virginia Highlands Community College. The following guidelines were developed to create a standard of quality for all campus publications and to enhance Virginia Highlands Community College s public image. If you have questions about these guidelines or need assistance creating a publication that adheres to these guidelines, please call (276) or adunham@vhcc.edu Printed Materials Any printed piece that will be distributed externally using the College name and logo must have prior documented approval of the Office of Public Relations & Marketing before being printed. The following information should be included on all publications: College name College logo Mailing Address Telephone Number Web address address EEO statement (see below) Spanish statement (see below) VHCC Tagline The tagline, sometimes called slogan, often is used on publications in conjunction with the logo. Although VHCC has not registered an official tagline with the Virginia State Corporation Commission, the one currently being used is Dedicated to student success. Committed to excellence. The tagline should appear below the logo in ITC Cushing Book Italic (font), PMS 660 (color). See below. EEO Statement It is important that this statement appear on all publications that will be viewed by students and the public. The type of publication dictates the most appropriate version of this statement. Virginia Highlands Community College promotes and maintains educational opportunities without regard to race, color, sex, ethnicity, religion, gender, age (except where age is a bona fide occupational qualification), disability, national origin, or other non-merit factors. The following statement should be used on publications: Si necesita ayuda en español, marque el número Model Release When photographs of individuals are being used to endorse the programs and services of VHCC, a model release form should be signed. A copy of this form is available at External Use of the Logo The Virginia Highlands Community College logo is property of VHCC and permission to use the logo requires consent from the VHCC Office of Public Relations & Marketing. The VHCC logo may not be used on any product, merchandise, or any externally produced material without this permission. Once granted permission, all parties should use the logo files distributed by the College. Use of Web versions of the logo or any other self-made logo is prohibited.

4 Logo Misuse The Virginia Highlands Community College logo has been carefully designed and should never be altered in any way. The examples below illustrate some ways the logo should not be used but do not represent every example of misuse. Do NOT Modify Colors Do NOT rotate the Logo Do NOT remove elements of the logo Do NOT Stretch the Logo (vertically or horizontally) Do NOT use a low resolution logo that appears fuzzy Do NOT add graphic elements Do NOT add a shadow to the logo

5 Promotional Items Departments interested in purchasing promotional products, such as pens, t-shirts, and mugs, should first contact the Business Office and the Office of Public Relations & Marketing to ensure all applicable guidelines are met. The Public Relations & Marketing Office will assist with artwork that can be forwarded to the selected vendor. Signature All official VHCC s should include an electronic signature that includes the VHCC logo. Name should be typed in Arial font, 11 point bold, and all other information should be typed using Arial font, 10 point regular. Please go to to download a template. VHCC Club Logos Each VHCC club will use as its logo the official club name, printed in all caps using Helvetica Neue LT Extended Bold, and the VHCC Logo. The VHCC Office of Public Relations & Marketing will assist clubs in creating this logo and ensuring all club members adhere to the logo guidelines. This template can also be used for departments and divisions within the College, such as the VHCC Educational Foundation, Inc. The VHCC Wolves Logo Virginia Highlands Community College has adopted the wolf as its official mascot. The name commemorates Abingdon s first name, Wolf Hills, which was given to the town in 1760 by Daniel Boone after his hunting dogs were attacked by wolves while traveling through the area. The Wolves Logo should be used to represent the College s student activities and athletic events. It should not be used on official documents, departmental reports, letterhead, business cards or other formal publications. Additionally, no other wolf images, logos or clipart should be used to represent the College. The name VHCC Wolves is part of the official logo and should not be removed. The text is a graphic element of the logo and is not a member of any font family. As with the College logo, the VHCC Wolves Logo should not be altered or distorted.
