The Ground Up Approach : A New Way of Thinking About Precision Agriculture Chad Pfitzer: Integrated Solutions Manager Lamar LaPorte: Integrated Solutions Data Specialist Agriculture and Construction Ag Stores: Greeley, Ft. Collins, Strasburg, Pueblo, Rocky Ford, Lamar, Holly, Cheyenne Departments: Parts, Service, Sales and Integrated Solutions The Integrated Solutions Department supports 4 Rivers Equipment s precision agriculture efforts, through support and development of AMS and 3 rd party technologies, to deliver the John Deere FarmSight Strategy. John Deere FarmSight Strategy An integrated and comprehensive vision to meet farm and business needs today and tomorrow. An array of products and services delivered through the global John Deere dealer network focused primarily at providing solutions for the categories below: Machine Optimization Logistics Optimization Ag Decision Support 1

The Ground Up Approach New way of thinking about precision agriculture! Furrow Focus lays out the steps to implement The Ground Up Approach. A new strategy, looking to fully unlock the potential of machines and technology, to help customers achieve their agronomic goals, and make more informed buying decisions and assessments, based on a solid foundation of good data. Once the carrying capacity of the soil is determined through a field survey, yield centric evidence based analyses of inputs, as related to variable rate technologies, for planting, spraying and irrigation, are undertaken throughout the process. Furrow Focus 4 Rivers Equipment Integrated Solutions Department Value Statement: By collecting, aggregating and utilizing quality data, and coupling it with industry leading technologies, we provide our customers with solutions to increase profitability and sustain long term growth. The process of value identification and implementation of The Ground Up Approach. Prior to engaging in any commercial activities, the 4 Rivers Equipment team sits with the customer, discuss and focus on agronomic and operational goals and the value proposition of particular technology bundles. The distinctive Furrow Focus action steps, toward implementationofthegroundupapproachare: Ground, Cultivate, Grow and Yield. The Ground Up Approach Variable Rate Irrigation Variable Rate Application Variable Rate Seeding EM/RTK Field 2

EM/RTK MAPPING It All Starts Here! EM/RTK Mapping Simultaneously mapping a field s topography, with highly accurate RTK corrected GPS, and utilizing a EM sensor to determine mineral properties present, helps determine the slope and the content at any given location within the field. Most differences in EM that we see are the result of variations in soil type, moisture content and compaction. This information is an indicator of the soil s ability to absorb and retain water and nutrients: critical data to creating variable rate seeding, fertilizer and irrigation Rx s. EM/RTK Mapping Electro magnetic (EM) surveying is an electro conductivity (EC) method with no direct soil contact. Conversely, Veris is a directcontact EC method. 3

EM/RTK Mapping Data Collection Data is collected at a run every 60 feet Data is collected at a maximum speed of 10 mph Readings recorded every second of travel Readings taken at 1 and 3 feet depths simultaneously 1,450 data points taken per acre EM/RTK Mapping Mobile RTK Standard Vertical RTK derived position accurate to one half inch (1.2 cm) within 2 mile radius of mobile base. Mobile RTK + Cruise Control + Assisted Steering = Higher Accuracy and Consistency 4

EM/RTK Mapping Understand in great detail exactly what is happening on a particular piece of ground. EM/RTK Survey Overlaid on NRCS Map Yield Data Overlaid on NRCS Map EM/RTK Mapping Data Collection Package Layer Reports Full Field Profile Field Variability Report Raw and Post Processed Data Topsoil and Subsoil EM Landscape Change Aspect Slope Boundaries KMZ Layers for 3D viewing in Google Earth Online Storage (Agworld) Processing of 1 Years Worth of Historical Yield Data 5

The Ground Up Approach Interface = Easy Button for data manipulation, control and sharing One dashboard On track to become a MyJohnDeere.com integration partner Designed for ios mobiles devices, but also available on the web Ties 3rd party together data (irrigation, imagery, etc.) Closely affiliated with PCT Based in Australia, but have an office in Windsor, CO 6

The Ground Up Approach What s next after EM/RTK mapping activity completed, AgDNA account is established and Data Collection package is delivered? Evidence Based Analysis (EBA) Comparing EM/RTK data variability to yield (HarvestLab), the potential for technology bundles to pay themselves back. Evidence Based Analysis (EBA) Evidence based reports show justification on investments (new equipment purchases, pivot telemetry, different programs and services) to our customers. 7
