Overall, markets in are relatively stable with only minor average overall price increases over the past month. The CWG is concerned over the continued economic blockade imposed by nonstate armed groups to Wajiid (Bakool region) and Diinsor (Bay region) towns, whose implementation has been enhanced since March, and recommends partners carefully analyse the appropriateness of using cash-based interventions in current conditions as a precaution. The supply chain disruption in Dinsor is reassuringly not yet reflected in the data but monitoring continues to follow up on price trends in the district. From March to, 4 of the assessed regions show a medium to large increase of the Full MEB, while 9 of the regions had a small to medium decrease in price Awdal and Middle Shabelle regions have reported the largest increase of the Full MEB with 19% and 16% respectively. increase in one month in Awdal is mainly due to a large drop in prices in March. However, MEB prices in Middle Shabelle has increased over the past three months. The CWG will carefully monitor prices in the region over the coming months. of all of the key commodities except vegetable oil have increased from March to by an average of 5%. 2 Market Cash and Markets Monthly Dashboard 2017 Market Analysis The significant price increase of key commodities in Awdal is partly attributed to a large drop in the market price in March, meaning that the price increase is likely to be a reversal of an unusually large drop in price between February and March. s of imported food commodities, rice and wheat, have decreased by 2%, 4% and 1% respectively across all the monitored markets. The price of vegetable oil remained constant on average while in Belet Weyne and Lass Caanood districts, the price increased by 13% and 11% respectively. The price of locally sourced sorghum increased by 14% across all monitored markets, with markets in Zeylac and Wanla Weyn districts reporting price increase of above 100%. The price of maize, increased by 7% on average while in Zeylac and Wanla Weyn districts, the price of maize increased by 50% and 60% respectively. Markets in Zeylac (68%), Wanla Weyne (25%) and Borama (22%) showed the highest average increase in price of commodities from last month. However, the three month price change for the three districts were less alarming, reporting 11%, 22% and 11% respectively. Market Supply The FSNAU/FEWSNET post-jilaal assessment reported that Deyr off-season cereal harvest in riverine areas of Gedo and Middle Juba was 93% below average as a result of limited water availability for cultivation and farmers selling crops to respond to high prices and demand. According to the post-jilaal assessment, large-scale humanitarian assistance has acted as a moderating factor for prices. While rainfall in late and early May has led to seed germination, it is still expected to have reduced yields due to early season losses and forecast erratic rainfall. Supply Chain Update South: Wajid town (Bakool region): Reports indicate that the blockade imposed by a nonstate armed groups has intensified in, with a number of security incidents impacting civilians trying to sneak commodities into town by donkey. The blockade is impacting the availability of key commodities in the market. Dinsoor town (Bay ): Reports indicate that a blockade imposed by a non-state armed group is affecting supply routes to Diinsoor town and surrounding areas.. Lower & Middle Shabelle: Rains subsided in the past two weeks in the regions, thus allowing free access of commercial trucks along the supply corridors.the Hirashabelle Administration withdrew all checkpoints mounted on the supply corridor linking Mogadishu and Afgooye two weeks ago. Central: Commercial trucks are back on the road as the inter-clan conflict that had affected the supply corridor linking Guricel and Baladweyn has been resolved. Puntland: Torrential rains and flash floods have been reported in different locations in Puntland in the past 1,5 weeks, causing disruptions in the supply corridors linking Bossaso with Garowe and Sanaag region.
