1 YR/Kg MONTHLY MARKET MONITORING BULLETIN Issue Number: 13 : 216 Background The market data and information is collected from seven FSIS Programme target Governorates through the Governorate Focal Units (GFU) and FSTS in Sanaa city. The prices are collected from Hodeidah, Hajjah, Dhamar, Hadramout, Lahej, Tazi and Sanaa city markets. The prices collected from at least 3 representative market centers and average is calculated for each location. The Market monitoring bulletin provides tables and charts that show the monthly prices in the targeted Governorate markets. It also provides and allows the users to compare the current prices with the previous month and the pre-crisis average. Highlights International export prices of wheat increased somewhat in, with the benchmark US wheat price averaging USD 188 per ton, slightly up from July but still more than 12 percent below its level a year earlier (FAO-FPMA, 216). However, the average prices of wheat in the local market over the target governorates decreased by.5 % compared to the previous month and still show an increasing trend by 27.51% compared to the precrisis era of February 215. The availability and supply of important food and non-food commodities have improved in the local market in the six-targeted governorates despite the recent intensive airstrike and destruction of the road infrastructures. Besides, prices are showing stable and decreasing trend across many of the local markets. However, locally produced sorghum, maize, wheat and barley is sporadically available in all target markets. According to (MoIT) during the period of January - July 216 1,267,959 tons of wheat grains and 41,663 tons of wheat flour imported through Al Hodeidah port, in addition to 261,36 tons constitutes other food commodities such as sugar, rice, cooking oil and milk products. The prices for sacrificial animals rise ahead of Eid Al Adha by 1.1% in Taiz, 6.41% in Dhamar and by 1.75% in Hajjah and Hadramout. Blockage of live animal export there is huge supply to domestic market. Increased supply and continued deterioration of income and poor household purchasing poor has influenced the price of live animal in the local market. The average prices of eggs in sharply increased compared to July 216 in many of the targeted governorate markets. The highest price increase was registered in Taiz (36.36%) followed by Sana a city (28.76%) and Hodeidah (27.9%). The price of diesel has increase between 3 to 7.5% while petrol decreased between 6 to 18% compared to July and still it is significantly higher than the pre-crisis (Table 9). The price of cooking gas has shown a decreasing trend compared to the previous month except in Hadramout, which has increased by 22.3%. However, it is significantly high compared to the pre-crisis, which reached about 183% in Taiz, 158% in Hodeidah, 154% in Dhamar. Retail Market Prices and Trends of Key Commodities Fig 1.
