32 Food and drinking water Norway has safer food and drinking water than most other countries in the world. Good animal health and a low level of infection regarding Norwegian livestock and Norwegian-produced food products are key reasons for Norway s good status. Results Food safety in Norway is generally good: Sustainable turnover and consumption Chemical substances in food Online purchases Consumer information High quality of drinking water: No solutions regarding reserve water Old wiring Future plans Follow up the work of waterworks owners More risk-based inspection Gather more knowledge about new forms of revenue Gather more knowledge about chemical substances Issue and update regulations and inspection regarding new marine species

33 Plants, fish and animals The feed used in aquaculture is experiencing teething problems, and this is affecting fish welfare and health. Good health in Norwegian plants and animals is put at risk when there is a rise in personal and commercial imports. Results Future plans Animal and plant health in Norway is good: An increase in imports increases the risk of disease Efforts to prevent chronic wasting disease (CWD) are on schedule The problems relating to the health and welfare of farmed salmon are still acute: Disease, high mortality rates, a lack of preparedness and salmon louse Take measures in aquaculture Raise awareness of infectious agents from other countries Implement new animal health legislation Monitoring programmes

34 Animal welfare and respect for animals Animal welfare is on the whole good, although this does not fully apply to all means of production or all animal husbandry. Results Most animals in Norway enjoy good living conditions: The use of stricter measures Unacceptable conditions regarding pigs for slaughter Rising number of cases where concerns have been reported Future plans Animal welfare Good collaboration with other actors Risk-based inspection

35 Quality and honesty It is important that the consumer is familiar with the quality and other properties of the products, and can make informed choices. Results Not good enough labelling The regulations for reporting cases concerning nutrition and health are not fully complied with Not good enough handling of fish Future plans Provide advice on labelling requirements Continue labelling checks Take part in international projects Collaborate with the Norwegian Fishermen s Sales Organization regarding the quality of seafood

36 Environmentally friendly production We must be aware of and acknowledge our ecological footprint and limit the amount of damage wherever possible. The UN s 17 Sustainable Development Goals apply to the whole of society, and many of these are linked to our social mission. 40 Regulatory work and international activities We implement our obligations under the EEA Agreement and we work well in coordination with others in various international forums. Our goal achievement for Norwegian exports is assessed as good, and we helped to reopen the Chinese market for the export of salmon. We are also well underway with streamlining and improving our working methods.
