8 Cities leading the way Problem: Current food systems being challenged - How to sustainably feed increasingly growing cities and connect citizens with healthy & sustainable food & nature R&I goal: Connect producers to consumers, empowerment of communities and citizens for food systems transformation, cities as innovation ecosystems Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) EC RTD report 'Food in Cities' to be published soon Link cities to and include them in research projects 8

9 International Bioeconomy Forum Informal flexible and multilateral network for R&I funder countries actively engaged in the Bioeconomy, and international organisations (OECD, FAO ) Focus on Research and Innovation: concrete R&I actions (e.g. microbiome) with balanced R+I activities, variable geometry participation R&I related policy discussions (e.g. data, indicators, investment) Commissioner Moedas announced the launching of the IBF on 13 October 2016 in the frame of the Food 2030 Conference. Four thematic activities which are currently under discussion and scoping are: Microbiomes (soil to gut) ICT in food systems including precision agriculture Forestry Plant health Partner countries (variable geometry) showing interest up to now in the IBF process: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, New Zealand, South Africa, USA International organisations (Int. Org.): OECD, FAO, European Forest Institute (EFI)... EU Member States: regular involvement of JPIs, relevant ERA-NETs, SCAR etc.
