In October 2013, HPP-Congo received funding to start a tree planting campaign in Farmers Clubs Madimba with the goal to plant 125 hectares of acacia trees. This campaign will continue into HPP-Congo will organize the farmers in a 3 years Farmers Clubs program. Presentation of the idea and the content of the project The Farmers Clubs Program has been designed by the Humana People to People Movement to provide a program to increase food production, and to engage poor rural families in improving their livelihood. The Farmers Clubs program in DR Congo will meet the agricultural objectives of the Government to reduce poverty in accordance with the Millennium Development Goals The project will empower the farmers to become active and contribute efficiently to the development of their communities. It is the aim of the Farmers Club project to assure food security in farmers households by improving their production and to significantly increase their incomes with the organization of sales committees and co-operatives. This will be achieved by practicing sustainable agricultural farming methods. The project is in the third year and all the 1000 farmers has been organized in to 20 clubs of 50 farmers per club being lead by 5 committee members in each club. Each committee member leads 9 other clubs members in different actions such as weeding the crops together. The farmers receive lessons every week in theoretical and practical basics. The club leaders are having different training on how best they can lead the clubs, they meet every month for evaluation meeting where they share challenges and find solutions at their level. 4
