2 REPORT OF THE NORTHERN UGANDA AGRIBUSINESS EXHIBITION Introduction: In trying to rejuvenate the development of Northern Uganda, Eye to Eye Consult in partnership with Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industries Lira (UNCCI) organized the Biggest Northern Uganda Agribusiness Expo This event featured an exhibition and business seminars under the theme Empowering Communities, Youth and Women through Agricultural Value Chains to address Climate Change and Food Security During the Business Sessions, stakeholders shared critical information about food, agriculture, value addition, climate change and food security. This was aimed to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural population and contribute to the growth of the region. The event was organized in partnership with key stakeholders who included: Uganda Wild life Education Center (UWEC), Motor Center East Africa, Agribusiness Trust (abi), Acacia Foods and Biyinzika Poetry. Objective: The main objective of the event was to support enterprise development, market & product diversification Specific Objectives: The key specific objectives of the event included; 1. Promote agriculture, trade and value chain development 2. Promote conflict sensitive business practices 3. Provide information about the available financial services and use of financial services 4. Provide information on Trade and Market opportunities 5. Empower Women through Agricultural Value Chains 6. Provide information about the NEW Development Initiatives 7. Organise sessions to empower communities on food security.

Empower Communities about Ending Hunger and Gender Equality. Participants: The event took place from 10th April 2017 to 17th April 2017 at the Mayors Garden in Lira. Over 10,000 stakeholders attended the evet. Over 150 Exhibitors ranging from Government Institutions, Development Partners, business community, traders, manufacturers among others exhibited their products and services. The key stakeholders included: Uganda Wild Life Education Center (UWEC), Mukwano Group, Agribusiness Trust (abi), Motor Center East Africa, John Deree, East Africa Grain Council (EAGC), Brazafric, Uganda Oil Seed Association, Crest Tanks, Lango Joint Farmers Cooperative, Alshadai Seeds, OTIS Seeds, Gold Seed, Pearl Seeds, Biyinzika Poetry, Acacia Foods, Sunlight Solar Systems (ENOS), House of Seeds, East African Seeds, S.A Field, Enterprise Uganda, Braenteck, Crown Beverages Ltd, Riham Group of Companies, Aryodi Farm, Solar Now, Village Solar, Shamba Mixed Farm, Members of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (UNCCI), Members of the Northern Uganda Business for Peace, Techno Serve, Traders, Manufactures among others. Official Opening Ceremony by Hon. Kwiyuuchiny Grace Minister of State for Northern Uganda The event was officially opened by the Minister of State for Northern Uganda Hon. Kwiyuuchiny Grace. The Minister thanked Eye to Eye Consult Ltd and the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (UNCCI) for organizing the event. She said Lango Region was a food basket for the North and this should be maintained. She called on the various stakeholders to support the Lango Region through value addition, capacity building and information sharing. 3

4 4 REPORT OF THE NORTHERN UGANDA AGRIBUSINESS EXHIBITION 2017 She noted that the NRM Government realized that in order to spur growth; the business community needs to take lead in the process of production, creation of wealth, support employment and generate Government revenue which would in turn support private sector development. The NRM Government deliberately created the necessary environment to enable the business community lead the growth. The measures put in place were all aimed at improving the competitiveness of the economy in general and the business community in particular. I am very happy that the business community is now taking the lead in driving the growth of the economy through activities like the Northern Uganda Agribusiness Exhibition. We need more of such activities and I call on the various stakeholders to support and participate in such initiatives. She called on Eye to Eye Consult to have the activity as an annual event Other stakeholders who attended the event included the Area Woman Member of Parliament, The Residence District Commissioner (RDC), the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Church Leaders, business community and the general public.
