3 Locale: Highmore, South Dakota is a small rural town of agricultural roots and is the county seat of Hyde County. Over 800 people consider Highmore home. Highmore is unique that it is the only town in Hyde County. It is centrally located in the state and is only 48 miles east of Pierre, SD, the capitol city. Highmore is noted for being the gateway to Big Bend on the Missouri River and offers great fishing, hunting, and recreational opportunities due to the Missouri River. Highmore is primarily an agricultural community with tremendous highway access with the town being at the crossroads of US Hwy 14 and SD Hwy 47.
