5 Disease Resistance and Straw Strength RGT Illustrious has the best combination of straw strength and disease resistance of all of the Group 1 varieties. It is one of the the tallest Group 1 varieties, but has good straw strength. 6 HOW MUCH NITROGEN? How much Nitrogen to apply Example based on 10.4 t/ha: 1. Yield at moisture= 10.4 x 1000 x ( )= % DM 2. 13% protein = 13.0/5.7= 2.28% grain N 3. Kg of N in grain = 2.28 x 8840 /100 = 202 kg of N/ha 4. Kg of N off-take by crop = 202/0.75 = 269 kg/ha ( Total N off-take N from SMN in crop )/Uptake efficiency * ( 75%) Worked example: Assuming a medium soil, 25kg in the crop, a further 50kg from SMN and off-takes as above: 269kg/ha ( ) /75 x 100 = 259 kg of applied total N/ha *dependant on soil type ( refer to RB209 ) Please note that this information is only to be used as a guide.
