Current efforts and progress in producing, procuring and/ or utilizing sustainable palm oil. A.1 IJMP owns a total land bank of 30,000 hectares with oil palm planted area of approx 25,000 hectares in Sabah consisting of 11 oil palm estates, 3 palm oil mills and 1 kernel crushing plant. A.2 IJMP continues its efforts in adopting and implementing good agricultural practices in all operating units. Time-tested GAP is being documented in IJMP s group planting manual and was constantly reviewed and updated. A.3 IJMP grouped its activities into four inter-related core pillars of sustainability namely Productivity & Innovations, Care for Environment, Investor in People and Returning to the Community. All activities in each of the pillars are related to the sustainability in the oil palm business and are in line with the Principles and Criteria of sustainable palm oil production. Implementation and/or sponsorship of projects /initiatives that promote sustainable palm oil B.1 Productivity & Innovations B.1.1 IJMP s seed production unit was accredited with the SIRIM MS157:2005 for its commercial seed production in Sijas estate. B.1.2 A biodiesel plant using a more environmentally friendly US technology is under construction and will commenced operations in year B.1.3 IJMP is evaluating a drip irrigation technology in its oil palm nursery. The precision dripping technology will minimize water wastage while obtaining optimum moisture condition for the growth of the oil palm seedlings. B.2 Care for Environment B.2.1 IJMP biomass cogeneration power plant is expected to be operational by mid year Utilization of treated EFB as fuel in energy generation is in line with IJMP s zero waste discharge policy and also part of the effort in reducing green house gaseous under Kyoto Protocol. A Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project has been developed for our effort in substituting fossil fuel with biomass for power generation. Presently, this project is in the midst of registration with UNFCCC Executive Board as CDM project. B.2.2 An ongoing research collaboration with UMS (Universiti Malaysia Sabah) in conducting environment, social and economic studies in the areas surrounding oxbow lake 117 i.e a conservation site with total area of hectare in Sugut region. B.2.3 IJMP has allocated more than 1,000 hectares of its land-bank in Sugut for tropical forest tree planting. Field planting evaluation of different timber species are being explored. B.2.4 Botanical and medicinal plant species were collected and planted in a designated arboretum in Sugut region. The arboretum will serve as a nature educational resources for the local people and visitors in addition to enhance flora biodiversity in the area. B.3 Investor in People B.3.1 IJMP continues with the local youth training attachment programme. Local unemployed youths are provided on-job training, and later offered permanent employment to those with potential and have interest to pursue with oil palm related activities.

3 B.3.2 On-going best management practices training for all IJMP s conductors, cadet planters and executives. Training committee was formed to incorporate all relevant field and expertise into IJMP s in-house training programme. The training committee also will ensure sustainable on-going training and retraining programme to all employees of the group. Training on crop quality was also extended to outside smallholders in the Group B.3.3 IJMP continues its initiative in stakeholder s engagement with local and foreign universities, governmental organization and NGOs. Local university students were placed with the company for their industrial training while visitors from foreign universities and governmental organizations participated in our organised tour visits. B.3.4 IJMP is the first plantation company in Sabah to engage with Bayer CropScience Sdn. Bhd. in a partnership to promote awareness, training, and implementation of good agricultural practices with the use of innovative crop protection products and technology. B.3.5 An inaugural IJMP scholarship was established for selected local Sabahans to pursue with tertiary education in Malaysia. B.4 Returning to the Community B.4.1 IJMP continues with its rugby sport development for local school children throughout the state of Sabah via its Academy of Rugby Excellence - a tripartite partnership between IJMP, Sabah Education Department and Sabah Rugby Union. This is a long-term community project which offers opportunity to schoolchildren for sports excellence in addition to character building and enhancing discipline amongst the young. Numerous rugby related activities has been organized such as coaching clinics by invited foreign players and coaches, holding international rugby tournament, coaching camps, and organising sport carnival for promoting youth participation in rugby sport. B.4.2 IJMP continues supporting breast health awareness campaigns in Sabah. The recent campaign was extended to the rural areas in Keningau and Apin- Apin attracting overwhelming participation from the local populace. B.4.3 IJMP s collaboration with a social NGO, Borneo Child Aid ( Humana ) had led to a project of setting up a school for the children of migrant workers in IJMP s Desa Talisai Estate in Sandakan. A brand new building will be constructed for this purpose, scheduled to be operational by early year 2008.
