1 $-^ BEEF UTRIET MAAGEMET PLAIG FEBRUARY 3, 4 CASE UDY (BEEF) System Descriptin This is a beef cattle (cw/calf) peratin in Burbn Cunty, Kentucky. The facility is wned and perated by Mr. Ben T. Abner. The nutrient management plan is being develped prir t cnstructin f a cvered feeding area/stack pad. The wner is currently determining whether a n-discharge permit frm the Kentucky Divisin f Water will be required. The plan is being develped n February,4 by Mr. Carl Bullard. Mr. Bullard cmpleted the KY utrient Management certificatin training, and has been assigned nutrient management specialist certificatin number 3. Mr. Abner has 4 head f cattle n 8 acres f pasture, and als grws acres f tbacc and acres f rchard grass hay. The system will cnsist f a cvered feeding area/stack pad, designed fr 4 head f cattle and 1 days f manure strage. The cattle weigh an average f 8 lbs./head. The wner has indicated that the cattle will be cnfined 1% fr 9 days during the winter mnths. Cattle will nt access the structure during the remainder f the year. Manure Handling and Strage Manure frm the cveredfeeding area will be mved t the adjacent cvered stackpad and stred until the fllwing grwing seasn. The manure will be land applied as a surce f plant nutrients n land that is under the cntrl f the peratr. Manure applied t crpland will be incrprated within days r less. Land Applicatin There are abut 14 acres (peratr wned) available fr land applicatin. Access t additinal land fr applicatin will be difficult and is nt anticipated. The farm is divided int 4 fields as fllws: Field 1: Tw acres in a cntinuus rtatin fburley tbacc (tw years) fllwed by tw years f rchard grass managed fr hay. This crp sequence takes fur crp years t cmplete, and the plan will begin fr tbacc in year 1. This field is well drained and will yield (n average) abut 8 punds f tbacc r 3 tns f hay per acre. The current sil test level fr Phsphrus is 3 and the Ptassium is 4. lime is needed. Manure will be applied based n a sil test recmmendatin basis with
