Major taxa of important commercial fishes of freshwater fish. Modern tools of classification of fishes study of important commercial species of Assam. Study of external morphology and meristic characteristic of shellfish (prawn).study of important commercial species of prawn of fresh and marine waters. Cultivable fish and shellfish species of this region and criteria for selection. Qualative and quantative estimation of food consumption based on stomach content analysis. Food selectivity, feeding intensity and strategies. Nutrition of fishes and utilization of food. Practical : Collection and preservation for taxonomic purpose: Study of external morphology of fish, prawn. Identification keys for commercially important species of fish and prawn. Qualative and quantative methods of food analysis of the stomach. Type of planks :- Phytoplankton and zooplanks, their significance as fish food. 1. 3 Paper-1.2 Principles of Aquaculture 60 Systems of Aquaculture: Pond culture, pen culture, cage culture, running water culture.extensive, semi-intensive. Intensive aquaculture in different types of water bodies: Species selection and suitable species for different culture systems.pre-stocking and poststocking management of nursery, rearing and stocking ponds control of aquatic weeds and algal bloom, eradication of unwanted fishes, liming, maturing/fertilazation.use of bio-fertilizers, supplementary feeding, composite carring capacity of pond and water quality. Study of cultivable species of tin-fishes and shellfishes, collection and identification control of aquatic weeds, insect, unwanted fishes, Algal bloom and their control. Preparation and management of nursery Rearing and grow out ponds study of effect of liming, manuring and fertilization. Estimation of planktons- qualitative and quantities. Collection and identification of fish food organisms food preparation and feeding. Identification of seed of cultivable fish species. Visit to fish farm to study different system of aquaculture. 1. Computation of water intake and discharge. Water budget: Effect of seepage and evaporation and their control, water replenishment. Soil types: Soil properties, Classification and texture analysisi,types of soil suitable for aqafarms. Selection of potential site for aquaculture. Land survey: Chain, compass level, plane table and contouring. 5 Paper-2.1 Soil & Water Chemistry 60 Origin and nature of soil: Physical properties of soil, Soil colour, soil texture, soil structure, pore size weather holding capacity and soil types. Soil chemistry organic carbon, carbon-nitogen ration, soil fertility, soil reclamation. Submerged soil, wet-land, soil analysis, collection and preparation of soil sample. Determination of soil texture, water holding capacity ph, organic carbon, soil quality criteria for aquaculture. Chemistry of water: Water molecule, properties of pure water and seawater composition of surface water and ground water. Water analysis collection and preservation of water sample measurement of temperature, transparency,turbidity,ph,oxygen,freecarbondioxide,alkalinity,hardness,t otal solids. Demonstration of laboratory glassware s, equipment s used in water and soil analysis. Water analysis measurements of temperature, turbidity, Determination of ph and EC.Salinity, chlorinity, total solids, Dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, total alkalinity, hardness, inorganic nitrogen phosphorous.
