2 Introduction Ede is located in the heart of the FoodValley, the top international region for expertise and innovation in the field of food production. Food covers numerous links in the food chain, from farm to fork. In Ede and the FoodValley Region, all kinds of activities relating to food production and consumption take place within this value chain. The corridor sitiuated between Ede en Wageningen, the Innovation Strip, is pivotal in this regard. Not only does this represent a geographical area, it also constitutes a network of businesses, authorities and knowledge institutions, all helping each other to progress. The Agrofood Monitor provides facts and figures about the population in the municipality of Ede, employment opportunities with the focus on food, and the innovative nature of the FoodValley Region. These Highlights give a quick overview with infographics. The full version offers all the macro-economic indicators in detail. This Agrofood Monitor shows that by choosing agro-food, Ede has committed itself to a field full of prospects. The same applies to the FoodValley Region as a whole. 3 People Ede s population is growing and increased by nearly 5% between 2007 and The working-age population, and therefore also the employment potential, increased significantly by 9.3%. The high labour productivity and low unemployment rate creates a good basis for Ede s economy. 9 Innovation Fast growing companies In 2015, Ede had 16 fast growing companies The municipality of Ede and the FoodValley region have fast growing companies among companies that employ more than fifty people. The number of fast growing companies has decreased in the Netherlands since 2009, while the number in Ede doubled. The FoodValley region is an innovative region with Wageningen University & Research at its heart. In 2014, WUR published more than 2,800 articles, which were cited far more often than publications by other Dutch universities.
