The enterprise focuses on market access activities for grain and oilseeds on both the supply and the demand side of the market: Senwes Grainlink provides agricultural producers with access to the commodities market through an extensive silo and marketing infrastructure; and Off-takers and processors obtain backward access to their raw materials market through those same structures. 3

Senwes Grainlink is involved in the total value chain by means of the following activities: STORAGE AND HANDLING OF GRAIN AND OILSEEDS The enterprise efficiently undertakes the handling and storage of grain and oilseeds to international standards, and has adequate infrastructure to store more than 4,5 million tonnes of grain in 69 silo complexes. The facilities comply with international food safety standards, and all but a few are registered Safex delivery points. Customers are also offered alternative storage through centrally located grain bunkers and temporary transit points, where grain is recieved on the same basis as at silos. 4

Value-adding services rendered include the cleaning of grain, moisture management, and drying facilities. Within the Southern African grain industry, Senwes Grainlink is seen as a leader in the identity preservation of commodities. The growing, sophisticated processor community is serviced according to its needs. Unique-specification commodities can be isolated and stored separately according to processors preference. The enterprise also has the expertise and capacity to establish and operate all forms of infrastructure. Senwes Grainlink is registered with the National Department of Agriculture as a Food Business Operator. Standards and procedures that comply with South African Good Business Practice, based on HACCP, have been phased in at all Senwes silos. 5

National grain sales Development of tailor-made, structured marketing packages. Development of sophisticated, structured packages, adapted to the client s unique requirements. Marketing of speciality products Producers are offered a service that affords market access for unique-specification products according to characteristics such as oil content, kernel hardness, and GMO status. 6

7 Afrika en internasionale besigheidsvertakkings Senwes Grainlink se voetspoor in Afrika is vergroot met die vestiging van die Senwes Malawi projek. Malawi is geïdentifiseer as n eerste land van toetrede tot Afrika weens die land se fokus op landbou. Die land is sentraal geleë in die streek waarin Senwes Grainlink wil opereer wat opwindende uitvoermoontlikhede bied. Business extension: Africa and international Senwes Grainlink s footprint in Africa has been enlarged by the establishment of the Senwes Malawi project. Malawi was identified as a first country of entry into Africa due to of its focus on agriculture. It is centrally located in the region in which Senwes Grainlink would like to operate a situation that offers exciting export possibilities. The creation of procurement and storage capacity is also envisioned. Similar ventures are being set up in Zambia, Mozambique, and Kenya. Involvement in Africa is not aimed at aid programmes, but rather at creating market access, on a commercial basis, where such access is not adequate. This approach will result in the upliftment of local communities as well. 7

SUNDRY ACTIVITIES Safex trading Senwes Grainlink acts as broker in transactions with Safex for any role player in the market and offers a complete market information and risk management service. A country-wide service is rendered from the North-West province, Gau - teng and the Western Cape. An option underwriting desk is also in operation. Senwes Grainlink is one of only a few established Safex-based option underwriters. 8
