17 IAMZ Advanced courses for professionals Conclusions, after 350 courses and 10,000 participants: They better serve nowadays CIHEAM s Mission of providing Complementary Education They are an effective instrument of international cooperation, built on synergies with partner institutions. Some international institutions are looking for synergies for advanced training The high percentage of courses co organized with international organizations shows that there is alarge and unsatisfied demand for this type of advanced train Interesting to both EU and Non EU CIHEAM professionals and from elsewhere. More attractive for professionals from the private sector Much less competition with national structures They could be designed according to Life Long Learning schemes which are gaining importance Quick (compared to MSc) preparation Large scope of possible topics. IAMZ with a very flexible system able to adapt to new training subject matters and tools Emerging and quarantine diseases of Mediterranean fruit and vegetable crops (2013) Precision livestock farming (2015)
18 However (particularly when comparing with CIHEAM Master of Science) : IAMZ Advanced courses for professionals International cooperation returns are lower. In a one or two week period, participants do not get truly identified with the institution. They do not build close cooperative links between Spanish research units and foreign trainees. They are relatively expensive. Unitary costs per time unit are much higher than in Masters. Logistically quite complex organization General economic difficulties reduce the number of candidates both CIHEAM grant recipients and those self supported. IAMZ s training system depends entirely on external lecturers and collaborating institutions. This is a strength regarding flexibility and diversity of topics to be covered, but is also a weakness as there is a high dependency on external collaborations Ecological restoration of Mediterranean rivers (2011) Fishery by products: technological innovations and uses (2015)
