Dow AgroSciences Fungicides for the control of Asian Soybean Rust Phakopsora pachyrhizi P. Welles, DAS, 2003

Fungicides are most effective in preventative control programs Control strategies All stages of crop are susceptible assuming favorable environmental conditions & viable pathogen.

Control Strategies Scouting of crop is still critical to determining optimum time to begin treatments in your crop Vegetative Stages R1 R2 Bloom R3-R4 Pods Forming R5 Seeds Forming R6 Full Seed R7 Maturing R8 Mature Optimum Disease Conditions Viable pathogen and susceptible host present Minimum of 6 hours leaf wetness (dew or rain); hrs maximum infection Temperature 60 to 80 F Relative Humidity 75% - 80%

DAS Soybean Rust Fungicides Available under Current Section 18 s Laredo* EC & EW EPA Reg No Active ingredient: Myclobutanil Formulation: 20EW (20% ai, 1.67lb/gal) PropiMax* EC EPA Reg No Active ingredient: Propiconazole Formulation: 3.6EC (41.8% ai, 3.6lb/gal)

Chemical group : Triazole (FRAC code group 3) Active Ingredients : Laredo (Myclobutanil) & PropiMax (Propiconazole) Mode of action : Sterol Demethylation inhibitor. Systemic fungicides with rapid foliar uptake and redistribution in plant Triazoles provide preventative control with some curative potential Amount of systemic movement and curative activity will vary by product TRIAL Folicur Eminent Quadris Stratego Pristine Headline Endura (Oz/Ac) Laredo EW 8.56 PropiMax 7.14 CAMBÉ (PR) RIO VERDE (GO) Laredo EC 7.13 Laredo EW 8.56 PropiMax 7.14 Laredo EC 7.13 Laredo/PropiMax equal to Laredo/PropiMax better than Laredo/PropiMax worse than

Laredo* EW/EC US Registrations include grapes, stone fruit, cherries, almonds, small fruits, strawberries, apples, cucurbits, tomatoes, snap beans, asparagus, turf. Soybean section 3 submission (2005) Directions for use: Apply fl oz/acre ( oz ai/acre). Ground or air application Apply early, before or at first signs of disease. Make a sequential application at day interval. Use restrictions: REI is 24 hours. PHI is 28 days. Don t exceed 2 applications or more than 16 fl oz of Laredo (0.25 lb ai myclobutanil/acre/year). 30 day rotational restriction to crops not listed on Laredo label.

PropiMax * EC Registered in multiple crops in US including: cereals (wheat, barley, rice), grasses grown for seed, corn, stone fruit, peanuts, pecans, celery, pineapple and sugarcane. Soybean registration pending Directions for use: Apply 4-6 fl oz/acre ( oz ai/acre). Ground or air application Apply early, before or at very first signs of disease. Make sequential applications at day intervals. Use restrictions: REI is 24 hours. PHI is 28 days. 105 day crop rotational interval for crops not listed on PropiMax label for food, grazing or any component of animal bedding. Don t exceed 4 applications or apply more than 16 fl oz of PropiMax (0.25 lb ai propiconazole/acre/year).

Application Recommendation COVERAGE Breaking through the canopy and covering lower leaves is critical to control Water Volume: Air 5-10 GPA; Ground GPA Higher water volume equals better coverage Nozzles: Hollow Cone 20 spacing; 2-3 feet above the canopy. Provide better air & canopy movement; Finer droplet size Spray Pressure: PSI. Higher pressures will provide better canopy movement and better lower canopy coverage Ground Speed: 3-10 MPH.

Dow AgroSciences Soybean Fungicide Efficacy Studies DAS has conducted efficacy trials throughout South American soybean growing areas since 2002 In 2004 Brazilian trials, at recommended rates, Laredo & PropiMax performance was equal to or greater than all products currently under US EPA section 18 or Section 3, for soybeans Eminent Quadris Folicur Stratego Pristine Headline Endura Laredo EW Laredo EC PropiMax EC n Laredo/PropiMax equal to n Laredo/PropiMax better than n Laredo/PropiMax worse than n = number of times in 10 observations
