China dominates production and trade, and its exports are forecast to surge more than percent. U.S. production is estimated at 4.5 million tons, up percent from last year, due to higher yields and good growing conditions. U.S. exports are forecast to climb more than percent, due to strong demand in Mexico, its top market. Northern hemisphere shippers expect trade to grow over percent, while southern hemisphere traders estimate exports up percent. Northern and southern hemisphere suppliers anticipate production up more than percent due to expanded production and good growing conditions. 4 Page 4 Pears Northern and southern hemisphere pear production is forecast to remain about the same as last year. However, northern hemisphere trade is forecast to dip percent due to weak demand and limited supplies. Southern hemisphere pear trade is expected to remain about the same as last year. Exports of U.S. pears are expected to decline 4 percent due to lower demand and smaller exportable supplies. Grapes Northern hemisphere grape production is estimated to be percent higher and trade is expected to be about 5 percent more than last year. Southern hemisphere grape production and trade are forecast to remain about the same as last year due to weakening demand, more alternative fruit choices, and increased competition.
