1 Gary L Stone Stone Lane Mitchell NE gstone2@unl.edu Mobile Home OBJECTIVE BACKGROUND WORK HISTORY Doctor of Plant Health Degree, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Thirty-six years experience working in the local area agricultural crops, irrigation, vegetation management, range and pasture, turf and ornamental and vector control sectors in the western half of Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. Duties relating to extension, research, sales, stewardship, clientele needs, and environmental issues. I have used this knowledge and experience to answer clientele needs and properly place products and management strategies for the best needs and results of the clientele in these areas, for both the short and long term. Master of Science in Mechanized Agriculture Certified Professional Agronomist Certified Crop Advisor Certified Manager of Invasive Plants Commercial Pesticide Applicator Licenses in the states of Nebraska and Wyoming Extension Educator, Special Projects, Irrigation, Cropping Systems, Turf and Ornamental June 2007 Current University of Nebraska, Panhandle Research and Extension Center, Scottsbluff NE. Extension work on special projects from grants to help growers manage irrigation water resources more efficiently. The first is the METRIC project ( which involves taking Landsat satellite images and ground based weather data to create consumptive water use maps for the North and South Platte Natural Resource Districts to manage surface and ground water. The second is the Pumpkin Creek project ( where on farm water management techniques and low water use alternative crop systems were demonstrated to area growers, to help manage their limited ground water supplies. As part of the extension duties, I have presented water management techniques and practices utilizing ET gages and soil moisture sensors to growers in the three Natural Resource Districts in the Nebraska panhandle and UNL Crop Production meetings. I have made oral and poster presentations in Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming on the METRIC, Pumpkin Creek, Limited Irrigation and Conservation Tillage, Satellite Based Energy Balance for Mapping Riparian Vegetation and invasive species management projects. I developed content for web sites for the METRIC and Pumpkin Creek projects; and posters for the Pumpkin Creek, Satellite Based Energy Balance for Mapping Riparian Vegetation projects, and the Upper North Platte River Weed Management Area. I assisted in research on the Risk Management Agency and Limited Irrigation Conservation Tillage projects. Additional extension duties include cropping systems, and turf and ornamental clientele assistance, UNL Master Gardener, pesticide and chemigation training, and hops research project. I am the radiation safety officer for the UNL Panhandle Research and Extension Center. Developed a PowerPoint / Slideshare presentation entitled The North Platte River: Surface Irrigation Projects and Power Generation ( a brief history and general background on the irrigation and power generation projects
2 along the North Platte River. Co-founded the UNL Panhandle Cheatgrass Management Team. Certified Manager of Invasive Plants September 2006 May 2007 Goshen County Weed & Pest Control District, Torrington WY. I provided product use recommendations, management practices, stewardship and application of pesticides for the Goshen County Coordinated Resource Weed Management North Platte River Project to treat Salt Cedar and Russian olive on the North Platte and Laramie Rivers in Goshen County, WY. I took photographs, GPS readings and documented project for a write-up by the Goshen County CRM for submission to the Wyoming Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust for future treatment options and planning. Sales / Territory Manager and Product Representative September 1993 August 2006 UAP Distribution, Inc. (Now Crop Production Services, Inc.), Scottsbluff NE. I provided product use recommendations, management practices, stewardship and sales of pesticides for general weed management and invasive / noxious weed management in the general agricultural crop, rangeland, pasture, riparian, and non-crop areas. I provided product use recommendations, management practices, stewardship and sales of pesticides in the vector control and rangeland grasshopper areas to local vector control abatement districts and weed and pest control districts. I provided product use recommendations, stewardship and sales of turf and ornamental products to golf courses, parks and recreation districts, retail lawn and garden outlets and nurseries. I was the sales and warehouse manager for the company warehouse in Scottsbluff, NE. I installed and evaluated pesticide / herbicide test plots for customer information tours and meetings. I organized and conducted product information and management meetings and tours for growers and applicators. I reviewed and completed bids from various government agencies. I provided hazardous materials training for area agricultural dealers, applicators and weed and pest district personnel for safe handling and stewardship of hazardous materials in the agricultural and vegetation management sectors. Agricultural Field Representative November 1979 August 1993 Jirdon Agri Chemicals, Inc. (Now WESTCO), Morrill NE. I provided fertilizer and pesticide recommendations to growers for area crops and pastures. I took soil samples, assembled soil analysis results and field maps for company and grower review. I was the purchasing and inventory manager for the agricultural and vegetation management products for the company. I provided calibration of sprayers and planters for liquid and dry formulations of pesticides and fertilizers. I organized and conducted product information meetings for company staff and growers. I reviewed and completed bids for weed and pest districts and other governmental agencies. I was the warehouseman and maintained grain storage records and issued warehouse grain receipts for the company owned grain warehouses.
