5 Innovation is GREAT Campaign 8 GREAT technologies The Innovation is GREAT campaign seeks to improve international perceptions of UK innovation, promoting the UK as a partner of choice to design, build and commercialise new technologies and products, and unlocking trade and investment.

6 UK Strategy for Agricultural Technologies Over 400 million each year from Government agencies Establish an UKTI Agri-Tech Organisation To promote foreign trade and inward investment in R&D and Agri-Tech Companies 90 million investment in world-class Centres for Agricultural Innovation Centres will support the wide-scale adoption of innovation, technologies and skills in the food and farming supply chain This includes up to 10 million for a Centre for Agricultural Informatics and Metrics of Sustainability Creating a 70 million Agri-Tech Catalyst Will improve the translation of research into practice Includes 10 million to support the transfer of technology and new products to developing countries

7 UK Industry sectors modern genetic & breeding approaches The UK Agri-Tech industry comprises three key sectors: - Plant Science - Precision Agriculture - Animal Health research on interactions between soil, water and crop/animal processes control of crop weeds, pests and diseases new technologies to improve agricultural management practices management of animal disease within farming systems

8 Plant Science - definition The scientific study of plants, including their growth, structure, physiology, reproduction, ecology and pathology, as well as their economic use, fit for purpose, and cultivation by humans Key areas: Genetics: GM, synbio, crop trials Nutrition: fertilisers, water, soil Health: pests, diseases, weeds
