Since 1977

Omarsa, Sustainable Shrimp Exporter Since 1977 Omarsa has been dedicated to the cultivation, processing and export of sustainable shrimp. Our dedication to providing the best sustainable products in these 40 years has positioned us among the top 3 exporters of shrimp in Ecuador with a broad diversification of markets successfully processing shrimp as headon, head-less and value-added. Omarsa has a vertically integrated operation: direct production process in hatcheries, shrimp farms, processing plant and commercialization which allows us to guarantee our customers the highest quality standards. 2 Hatcheries 3 Farms 1 Processing Plant

Shrimp hatcheries Our hatcheries, Tabasca & Mar Bravo, meet requirements of recognized private international certifications. Omarsa's hatcheries work with a selective breeding program based on growth and resistance of the breeding stock. The breeders are selected from our own shrimp farms in a closed cycle. There are no wild larvae allowed in the cycle. There are two phases in this process: maturation (the actual breeding of the shrimp) and larviculture (nursery of the shrimp). There is no genetic manipulation involved in this process. There is an 100 % free of Eyestalk ablation (Regulation 834/EU/2007, Organic Standards).

Shrimp farms

Shrimp farms Omarsa has three shrimp farms strategically located in areas which are known to be of high production yields. We have more than 3,200 hectares of farmed shrimp, located in estuarine zones (natural shrimp environment) during the juvenile and pre-adults (commercial sizes). Since all these sectors are under sea water influence, tides ensure renovation of water avoiding stagnated waters. Chongón: 914,20 hectares (Global Gap, Regulation EU/834/2007, Naturland) Cachugrán: 1, hectares (Global Gap, BAP/ACC) Puná: 1, hectares (Global Gap) The production systems have been carefully selected in order to reduce the impact on the environment, having implemented certified systems in all our farms and organic standards in Chongón. All production sites are managed under a zero antibiotic philosophy, promoting the use of probiotics and natural fertilizers. All shrimp farms have quality of water analysis and health monitoring.

What is the ASC certification? ASC stands for Aquaculture Stewardship Council a nonprofit organization funded by IDH and WWF in The Standard 1. Legal compliance (obeying the law, the legal right to be there) 2. Preservation of the natural environment and biodiversity 3. Preservation of water resources 4. Preservation of diversity of species and wild populations (e.g., preventing escapes which could pose a threat to wild fish) 5. Responsible use of animal feed and other resources 6. Animal health (no unnecessary use of antibiotics and chemicals) 7. Social responsibility (e.g. no child labour, health and safety of workers, freedom of assembly, community relations). Omarsa s ASC Shrimp Low Stocking Densities of around 12 PL/m2 Extensive farming: no aeration, no plastic liner in ponds. No mangrove cutting mangrove reforestation program in place. Vertically integrated production (Hatchery, Farming Processing). No antibiotics and chemical treatments. Audited by Sedex: organization dedicated to driving improvements in ethical and responsible business practices. ASC Shrimp in Short Biodiversity Environmental Impact Assessment. Participatory Social Impact Assessment and Stakeholder Dialogue. No Antibiotics. No construction of farms in critical habitats of endangered species (IUCN Red List). No construction of farms in mangroves. Existing farms in mangroves must compensate according to the findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment. Feed ingredients sourced from sustainable sources.

Omarsa was audit by SEDEX-SMETA On December 2015 Omarsa packing plant was evaluated under the criteria of the audit Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audits (SMETA), obtaining favorable results. This audit aims to ensure ethical trade and social responsibility of companies through the assessment of compliance with regulations related to labor and occupational risk prevention standards; framed by the requirements of local legislation and the Base Code Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI). Sedex is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to enable improvements in responsible and ethical business practices in supply chains worldwide and has the largest share ethical data in the supply chain collaboration platform. Through this platform, Omarsa can share information about their working practices with its partners to help develop a more sustainable approach to shrimp production. "This is the first major audit in work ethics we have done and we are very proud of the results. Omarsa focuses on sustainable shrimp production and is committed to keep improving our social, economic and environmental performance." Sandro Coglitore, CEO of Omarsa
