5 BMR Scheme for Rice Husking Mills in Sindh Introduction SEDF has launched BMR scheme for ailing Rice Husking Mills in collaboration with State Bank of Pakistan and Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs). About 800 Rice Husking Units established in the 1960s and 70s; Now outdated/obsolete technology with operational losses as high as 40%. SEDF s objective To modernize and restructure Rice Husking Units throughout Sindh. Incentive The scheme entails 30% Credit Guarantee and subsidy of 4.75% on refinance rate. The applicant to pay bank spread which is 2.75%.

6 BMR Scheme for Rice Husking Mills in Sindh Status Update Scheme was launched in March Several meetings were held with PFIs, Rice Millers and SBP. Reasons for Low Success Rate Banks are not inclined to take Long Term exposure i.e. 3-5 years. However, rice millers do have Running Finance relationship with these banks. Rice Millers being Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) find it cumbersome to fulfill the requirements for Long Term Finance (LTF)

7 BMR Scheme for Rice Husking Mills in Sindh Current Progress Six rice mills have been approved under this Scheme by Soneri Bank, NBP & HBL. Awareness sessions on BMR Scheme were held in Hyderabad, Larkana and Sukkur where existing borrowers of NBP were educated on various aspects of this scheme. These awareness sessions were held in collaboration with NBP and SBP.

Red Chilli Growers at Kunri & Adjoining Areas Rs tons Rs.69 Habib Bank A pilot collection center, established by National Foods, has started its operations. This center has a testing lab (comprising of moisture analyzer to determine moisture levels, analytical balance for weighing, Butyro refractive meter to determine BR colour value, Soxhlet extractor to conduct non-volatile ether extract, Elisa technique to determine aflotoxin) and storage. The collection center aims to attract/purchase good quality chilli from farmers. Farmers will get a premium on good quality chilli and instant payment (they are cash-poor under the current mandi system). With collection center and testing lab, Food processors will get good quality chilli directly from farmers and whereas farmers would get the benefit in terms of financial assistance on their bank loan as well as selling directly to the food processors at collection center.

The company is also installing Grain Storage system from Dehsetiler, Turkey with a storage capacity of 10,000 metric tons. The project is located at plot no. E130/131 situated at North Western Industrial Zone, Port Qasim, Karachi. Having this kind of project in Sindh will encourage cultivation of maize in the province providing greater opportunities to local farmers by adding another cash crop as an option. Pakistan maize is non GMO product as it is not Genetically modified. This also mean that Pakistan maize has better nutrient values than maize of other region.

Conventionally, the cottonseed is just crushed as it is, resulting in wastage of linter in the oil cake. Delinted oil cake will have high percent of protein as compared to non delinted oil cake.

The project will not only enhance shelf life and value of the agri-based produce that is exported from our country, but will also enable Pakistan to enter markets which were previously inaccessible due to absence of requisite cold storage and processing facilities.

Project Volaille: Establishment of Environmentally Controlled Poultry Farm Rs ,000 birds/flock Rs.8.95 MCB The poultry industry is adopting new technologies in the field to enhance productivity and minimize infection risks. Environment controlled sheds is one of the technological advancement being used to counteract the adverse effect of heat stress by providing tunnel ventilation and enhancing the wind chill effect. These sheds, when equipped with automatic chain feeding and nipple drinking systems, make the environment conductive for poultry production and reduce the risk of bacteria during seasons.

The Organic Meat Company (Pvt) Ltd Rs tons Export per Month Rs Habib Bank & Faysal Bank The company wishes to expand its existing slaughter house by introducing offal processing line and expansion of vacuum based packing technology to cater increasing demand of processed meat in Middle East Countries. In 2013, the company exported 2,800 tonnes of fresh chilled and frozen meat with annual revenues of Rs. 1,200. Considering the present trend and increasing local demand, it is expected that in future, demand for livestock products will increase at a higher rate primarily on account of increase in population and the elasticity of demand associated with meat products.

The unit is one of the better equipped composite rice processing facility directly exporting to various markets such as Senegal and other African countries and indirectly exporting to Ukraine & other European countries.
