5 Animal Resources Information System (ARIS2) ARIS 2 is a tool to enhance the capacities of the RECs and MSs to collect, collate and analyze animal resources data in a timely manner; Contribute to the design and harmonization of policies and implementation of animal resources practices based on timely available, reliable and up-to-date information; Goal: Help position MS, RECs &AU-IBAR as primary & reliable sources of comprehensive African animal resources information 5

6 Major Features of ARIS2 ARIS 2 is built as a SYSTEM: Input, processing and Output Integrated covers all areas of Animal Resources Multilevel application; Multi-User; Multi-lingual Good and scalable security Web-based reporting (but with off-line mode); Provides real-time information gathering and sharing capability; Data ownership (with validation and sharing at will); Customisable to country specification and needs; Sub-domains; modules; user groups; step wise roll out etc 6

13 Recommendations Countries should employ information experts tasked to directly collect, enter and maintain databases for livestock data Livestock data in many African countries should be made accessible Countries should devote a budget for regular collection and updating livestock data Countries should improve livestock data handling Strengthen national livestock data collection systems Strengthen Intra and Inter-sectoral linkages and data management platforms 13
