Contents: UK context DFID Programmes DFID & Met Office Country Projects Summary

Climate Service UK Launched in 2013 as the UK s response to the GFCS that calls for countries national met services to take a central role in establishing national frameworks Key elements: - provision of climate information and tools - value-added services - expert advice - capacity strengthening - International application

UK Contribution to the WMO VCP Background - The WMO Voluntary Cooperation Programme (VCP) supporting developing country National Met. Services through sharing of expertise, and providing equipment and training - Along with a number of National Met Services worldwide e.g. USA, Canada, Japan, Spain etc the UK contributes, via the Met Office, to the WMO VCP. Overview - Projects span across the value chain from support for observations, to service delivery and cross-cutting areas including human resource development and disaster /emergency assistance UK VCP has a good reputation for tangible on the ground projects and mainly working directly, and bi-laterally, with developing country National Met Services

DFID Programmes

DFID DfID The Department for International Development leads the UK s work to end extreme poverty. Contribution of activities in support of the GFCS Significant investment in programmes of climate activity For example, largest donor to the African Climate Policy Centre Extensive programmes underway in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean Number of initiatives are designed by region rather than country which maximise efficiencies

DFID Programmes PROGRAMMES UNDERWAY ACPC Country Pilots with Roll Back Malaria and ENACTS Future Climate for Africa Regional Continent wide Building Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Extremes and Disasters (BRACED) to build the resilience of people to extreme climate events in selected countries of the Sahel, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South Asia. SHEAR Science for Humanitarian Emergencies and Resilience scoping study

DFID Programmes SCOPING/PLANNING STAGE SHEAR (Science for Humanitarian Emergencies and Resilience) Climate Information Services in Africa Country & regional approach Capital investments and technical assistance Clim-IQ Climate Information Services in Asia
