2 Current Research Projects Cardiometabolic disease outcomes, dietary patterns, and participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Comparability of epidemiologic models to estimate cardiometabolic disease burden associated with exposure to nutrition policy interventions Dietary quality of vegetarian diet patterns Independent Dietary patterns, meat consumption, and dietary quality Agricultural capacity to accommodate dietary patterns in the Northeast US Research and Policy Experience Postdoctoral Scholar Aug 2015-Present Engaged in two research projects as researcher and author: 1) Investigating the comparative-effectiveness of policy interventions to improve diet and reduce cardiovascular disease, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH); and 2) Investigating the relationship between global dietary intakes and disease outcomes. Both projects utilize mixed modeling techniques to estimate diet-disease relationships. Research Assistant Apr 2011-July 2015 Research assistant to Drs. Timothy Griffin and Christian Peters, as part of a USDA-AFRI funded research project titled Enhancing Food Security in the Northeast through Regional Food Systems Development. Developed methodology, collected and managed data, and analyzed data for several projects in which we examined the capacity of the US food system to meet food demands, and the relationship between meat consumption and Healthy Eating Index (HEI) scores. This resulted in a peer-reviewed publication in 2014 in the Journal of Renewable Agriculture and Food Systems (secondary author) as well as a research paper that is currently in preparation (primary author). Consultant Aug 2010-Mar 2011 Cambridge Public Health Department (Massachusetts) Authored communications material on food, nutrition, and physical activity policies and programs for the Cambridge Public Health Department ( ZACH CONRAD page 2

3 Logistical Coordinator July 2010-Dec 2010 Cambridge Food and Fitness Policy Council (Massachusetts) Developed a logistical operations plan for the newly established Cambridge Food and Fitness Policy Council (Massachusetts), which was tasked with making food and physical activity recommendations to policymakers. The plan was used to manage the logistics of the Council, and included a strategy plan, evaluation plan, and timeline of operations. Biological Science Aide June-Aug 2009 Agricultural Research Service, USDA (Orono, Maine) Collected primary data and used computer modeling software to investigate production economics and farm management for a USDA funded project titled Reducing off-farm grain inputs on Northeast organic dairy farms. Research Assistant Feb 2009-May 2009 Small Planet Institute Conducted literature reviews on topics related to consumer food preferences, environmental sustainability, and food systems for Anna Lappe, co-founder of the Small Planet Institute. This resulted in a book titled Diet for a Hot Planet, published by Bloomsbury Publishing, Plc in Climate Change Campaign Co-coordinator July 2007-July2008 Center for Food Safety (Washington, D.C.) Conducted literature reviews on the relationship between agriculture and climate change as part of a national campaign designed to influence policies related to food, agriculture, and climate change. This research resulted in a white paper which I authored, as well as additional publications that the Center for Food Safety released. I engaged with high-level stakeholders including funders and collaborators, as well as multiple media outlets. Intern May 2007-June 2007 Center for Food Safety (Washington, D.C.) Drafted public comments for food and agriculture policies, and lobbied congressional members on issues regarding the relationship between consumer food choices, agricultural practices, and environmental outcomes. Teaching Experience Co-Instructor Sept 2015-Dec 2015 Delivered lectures on US and international nutrition problems, food and farm policy, agricultural systems, and environmental outcomes, for a graduate-level online certificate course. Managed course material, graded assignments, developed and delivered seminars and tutorials, and interacted with students on a oneon-one basis. Guest Lecturer Oct 6, 2015 Developed and delivered a lecture on dietary pattern analysis for a graduate level course, Nutritional Epidemiology. Instructor and Course Developer Dec 2014-Jan 2015 Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences, Tufts University (Boston) Designed curriculum on food pattern modeling and instructed and mentored undergraduate students in a three week research-intensive program designed to prepare them for a PhD program and an eventual career ZACH CONRAD page 3

Course Manager and Guest Lecturer Sept 2014-Jan 2015 Delivered lectures, managed course material, and graded assignments for a graduate-level online certificate course on food systems and sustainable agriculture. Course Developer Nov 2013-Aug 2014 Developed course content on US and international nutrition problems, food and farm policy, agricultural systems, and environmental outcomes, for a graduate-level online certificate course. Teaching Assistant Sept 2012-Dec 2013 Teaching assistant to Drs. Timothy Griffin and Christian Peters for three semesters, for a two course series titled Agricultural Science and Policy I & II. Assisted students on a one-on-one basis and as a class, managed course content, and graded assignments. These are core required courses for the Agriculture, Food, and Environment graduate program at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
