1 Mercator Media Press Release 28 February START - Technical visits at Offshore Mariculture Mexico Offshore Mariculture Mexico 2017 is a conference dedicated to the mariculture and aquaculture industry, taking place in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico between the 6 th and 10 th March. Hosted in conjunction with the federal and regional governments of Mexico, the conference and technical visits are a must-attend event for those invested in growing and

The technical visits are held over one and a half days during the conference, where delegates are invited to visit working fish farms, view the practices and techniques, and gain a greater understanding of how to develop their farming business in the region. The technical visits will include a boat tour to the Pycmar Processing Facility and UABC Facility (University of Baja California), Pacifico Aquaculture Striped Bass, Baja Aquafarms Tuna and Oceanic Mussels and Oysters, Ocean Baja Labs Yellow Tail Hatchery and Abulones Cultivados Abalone Farm. The technical visits will run over the course of 1.5 days, allowing for a full experience of the offshore farms and processing sites. Pycmar Processing Facility uses the most advanced technologies to process large volumes of high-value, commercial species from the main fisheries, predominantly from the Pacific region. The advanced processing technologies and deep freezing gives Pycmar the capacity to consistently delivers high quality products to the end-consumer around the world. Pycmar is ideally located in Ensenada, Baja California, just 75 miles from San Diego and four hours from the port of Long Beach, California, benefiting from fluid connection to the rest of the world. Ocean Baja Labs has a state-of-the-art sustainable hatchery facility located south of Ensenada on the Baja peninsula. Producing Baja yellowtail, OBL built the first commercial Baja Yellowtail RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture System) in north America, with the intended capacity to produce 2,000,000 fingerlings per year. This prime location allows them to supply to any part of north America. The technical visit with Ocean Baja Labs will take place on Friday 10 th March. A boat tour to the Pacifico Aquaculture Striped Seabass offshore facilities offers delegates insight into the farming of premium, sustainable, ocean-raised Seabass, where a commitment to preserving and protecting the environment within which the fish farms are located is paramount. The clean, clear and deep ocean waters with strong currents, make Ensenada one of the best places in the world for responsible mariculture, giving farmers the opportunity to meet global demand. The visit to the Abulones Cultivados Abalone Farm will provide insight into commercial operation of two culture systems, land-based juvenile production facility and ocean cage system where abalone is grown to market size. Preceding this, Duk-Hyun Yoon, General

3 Manager, Aqua-Int. Consulting Ltd will be leading the discussion on Comparison of Abalone production cost between land based farm and cage culture in Korea.
