5 (4) Crocodile is one of the economic animals of Thailand. All parts of crocodile e.g. meat, skin, blood can be used. To raise quality crocodile to meet its standard and be safe for consumption and be in line with the trading country requirements, the Agricultural Standards Committee deems it necessary to establish the Thai Agricultural Standard on Good Aquaculture Practices for Crocodile Farm. This standard is based on the following document: National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards Report of the Study for the Criteria of Good Aquaculture Practices for Crocodile Farm Project.

6 NOTIFICATION OF MINISTRY OF AGRICULUTURE AND COOPERATIVES ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THAI AGRICULTURAL STANDARD: GOOD AQUACULTURE PRACTICES FOR CROCODILE FARM UNDER THE AGRUCULTURAL STANDARDS ACT B.E.2551 (2008) Whereas the Agricultural Standards Committee deems it necessary to establish an agricultural standard on Good Aquaculture Practices for Crocodile Farm as a voluntary standard in accordance with the Agricultural Standards Act B.E (2008) to promote such agricultural commodity to meet its standard on quality and safety, By virtue of Sections 5, 15 and 16 of the Agricultural Standards Act B.E (2008) and the decision of the Agricultural Standards Committee at the Second Session dated 2 May B.E (2016), the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives hereby issues this Notification on the Establishment of Thai Agricultural Standard: Good Aquaculture Practices for Crocodile Farm (TAS ) as a voluntary standard, details of which are attached herewith. SCOPE 1.1 This Thai Agricultural Standard applies to good aquaculture practices (GAP) for crocodile farm from post-hatching (after nursing), raising, harvesting, and post-harvest handlings prior to transportation in order to obtain good quality crocodile for trading and safe for consumers by taking into consideration animal health and welfare, environmental friendliness, and social responsibility. 1.2 This standard does not cover hatching and nursing stage. 2. DEFINITIONS For the purpose of this standard: 2.1 Crocodile means animal of the genus Crocodylus. This standard covers two species of Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) and saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus). 2.2 Crocodile farm means establishment for crocodile farming covering rearing ponds, feed preparation area, housing and essential areas for sanitation facilities. 2.3Animal identification mark means evidence or mark on crocodile for identification. 2.4 Rearing pond or raising pen means enclosure to confine crocodile by fence or wall, consisted of land and water area. 3. REQUIREMENTS Requirements of Good Aquaculture Practices for Crocodile Farm are as in Table 1. Table 1 Items and Requirements Items 1. Farm Location and Registration Requirements 1.1 Evidence of aquaculture farmer registration with the Department of Fisheries or other designated competent authorities and other documents stipulated by laws shall be available. 1.2 Farm shall not be affected by the sources of pollution or be provided with preventive and control measures. 1.3 Farm shall not be located in flood prone area or be provided with preventive and control measures to minimize the impact of flooding.

8 TAS Items Requirements 1.4 Farm should have good system of water inlet and outlet. Water used for crocodile farming should be adequate with suitable quality. Otherwise, water can be appropriately treated for crocodile raising. 1.5 Farm should be conveniently accessed and have good transportation inside. 1.6 Essential basic infrastructure should be available. 2. General management 1.7 Quarantine area for newly introduced crocodile and isolated area for sick crocodile should be available. 2.1 The Department of Fisheries relevant manuals on aquatic animal farm or the other recognized technical recommendations should be followed. 2.2 Availability of farm map and layout 2.3 Raising pen shall be designed to ensure worker safety and enhance appropriate living condition of crocodile. 2.4 Raising pen shall be secure to prevent crocodile from escaping or moving to other pens. 2.5 Fence or enclosed wall should be sufficiently secure and sturdy. Control plan to prevent crocodile escape during flooding should be in place. 2.6 Land and water areas of the raising pen should be appropriately managed. 2.7 All crocodiles shall have animal identification mark. 2.8 Farm personnel skill should be developed or trained on technical issues, management, use of production inputs, collecting or harvesting, and relevant laws and regulations. 3. Production inputs 3.1 Crocodile hatchlings with documents identifying source of origin stipulated by laws shall be used. 3.2 Crocodile feed shall be free from prohibited veterinary drugs and chemicals according to the government notification. 3.3 Appropriate methods of transporting feed to farm should be used.

9 3 TAS Items Requirements 3.4 Sufficient quality and quantity of feed should be used according to crocodile requirement. 3.5 Registered feed supplements or vitamins with the competent authorities shall be used. 3.6 Production inputs should be hygienically, securely and appropriately stored to prevent pest harbourage. 4. Crocodile health and welfare management 4.1 Raising pen and equipment should be properly prepared to prevent the occurrence of crocodile diseases. 4.2 In case crocodile shows abnormal symptom, management measure should be taken into consideration prior to the use of veterinary drugs and chemicals. 4.3 Veterinary drugs and chemicals prohibited by laws shall not be used. If veterinary drug and chemical treatments are necessary, apply only registered veterinary drugs and chemicals, and strictly follow the instruction on the label. 4.4 In case of high mortality, farmer shall inform the competent authority and appropriately dispose of carcasses and water discharge. 4.5 The report of morbidity, mortality, and treatment shall be recorded. 4.6 Crocodile health should be regularly monitored during raising. 4.7 In case of introduction of new crocodile, quarantine measures according to relevant regulations and guidelines shall be in place. 4.8 Operate in accordance with animal welfare laws. 5. Farm sanitation 5.1 Household water discharge shall be separated from the crocodile raising water system.

10 TAS Items Requirements 5.2 Toilets shall be proportionately separated from rearing areas and hygienic. Sewage contamination to raising system shall be avoided. 5.3 Availability of waste disposal system from raising in a hygienic manner 5.4 Equipment and tools should be orderly stored, clean, hygienic, maintained, and ready to use. 5.5 Availability of appropriate management of waste disposal to prevent harbourage of disease carrier animals and animal digging. 6. Harvest and postharvest handlings 6.1 Availability of harvesting plan 6.2 Availability of permit/license and movement document of wildlife for trading stipulated by relevant laws and regulations 6.3 Crocodile shall be hygienically managed and handled during pre-harvest, harvest and post-harvest by choosing the methods that minimise pain and distress of crocodile. 6.4 The use of immobilizing drugs during harvest shall be under supervision of licensed veterinarian. 6.5 Plan for crocodile release that is safe for workers and crocodiles as well as the follow-up after the release should be in place. 7. Labour and welfare 7.1 Workers shall be legally employed. 7.2 Welfare for workers shall be appropriate and adequate. 7.3 Provide working equipment including personal protective equipment for safe operation. 8. Environment 8.1 Genetically modified and hybridized crocodiles should not be raised on crocodile farm. 8.2 Quality of discharge water shall be complied with relevant laws and regulations.

Social responsibility 9.1 Farm location should not affect the living condition or activity of local community. 9.2 Hiring priority should be given to workers from local community. 9.3 The benefit of community should be considered at all production stages. 9.4 Activities to promote relationship between farm and community should be arranged. 9.5 Farmers should apply for membership and participate in crocodile farmer organizations or the other related organization. 9.6 Availability of projects, plans, or activities demonstrating the direct and indirect support on crocodile conservation and/or other wildlife as well as their natural habitat 10. Record keeping 10.1 Birth, death, and movement shall be recorded in accordance with the Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act B.E (1992) and its amendments Important data should be recorded at all stages of production.
