8 Global Strategy on Animal Genetic Resources Why? To assist countries in developing their capacity to manage AnGR for food and agriculture What happened until now? process started after Rio-Conference in 1992 Convention on Biologic Diversity since 1995: FAO Commission on Genetic Resources in Food and Agriculture (CGRFA) since 1997: Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Animal Genetic Resources (IGTWG-AnGR)

10 Coordinated European Position on the necessity of International (not European!) funding mechanisms for AnGR of additional legal instruments on the exchange of AnGR (Treaty on AnGR?) to regulate intellectual property rights within the framework of AnGR (like plant varieties)
