2 BiOZEEN Summer Training Program in Industrial Microbiology & Fermentation Technology One small step can brighten your future Microbes practically touch every stream of our life and are widely exploited industrially in agro, food, pharma, biologics, chemical, energy, waste treatment, etc. The process may differ but the underlining principles in all the aforementioned applications involve creating fermentation technology for optimal growth of microorganisms to achieve desired end products. In this entry level course we aim to introduce you to the fundamentals of microbial fermentation, its industrial application and recent technological advances. The course is structured with strong emphasis on hands-on experience in our cgmp type Bio-Pilot Lab where students will be exposed to real-world problems of fermentor design, microbial growth optimization, process analytics and economics. Batch 1: 23rd June 27th June 2014 Batch 2: 14th July 18th July 2014 Learn microbial application in industrial process Apply biological and engineering principles for cultivating microorganisms in Fermentors Assess bioprocess parameters (ph, Temperature, Nutrients, Dissolved O 2, etc) that are critical for improving microbial growth rate Comprehend principles of fermentor design, sterile engineering, process development and production economics Analyze problems encountered during fermentation process and develop protocol for scale-up and harvesting from shake flask to bench top fermentor

3 BiOZEEN Summer Training Program in Industrial Mammalian Cell Culture Bridging the gap between academia and industry Mammalian cells are cultured in industrial bioreactors to manufacture viral vaccines, immunobiologicals, hormones, therapeutic enzymes, etc. In recent years advances in cell line engineering, gene cloning and bioprocess technology has facilitated wide spread use of mammalian cells for producing complex protein therapeutics. The high growth in this sector has created a gap for skilled cell process technologists. To create interest among students to pursue this exciting field we have created an introductory course on mammalian cell cultures focusing on its application and recent technological advances. The course is structured with strong emphasis on hands-on experience in our cgmp type Bio-Pilot Lab where students will be exposed to realworld problems of bioreactor design, cell growth optimization, process analytics and product economics. Batch 1: 16 th June 20 th June 2014 Batch 2: 7 th July -11 th July 2014 Learn aseptic techniques involved in handling of mammalian cell lines Gain practical skills to subculture mammalian cells and quantify cell growth using Haemocytometer Apply sterile filtration for media preparation and optimize cell growth parameters Understand cryopreservation principles and learn cell banking methods employed in industry Comprehend principles of bioreactor design, aseptic engineering, process development and cell culture product production economics

These downstream processing techniques affect the economics of manufacturing pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, enzymes, nutraceuticals, etc. Thus mastering the art of bioseparation techniques is critical towards ensuring commercial success of the product. Taking this in mind our entry level course is designed to introduce you to the principles of bioseparation techniques employed in the industry, its application and recent technological advances. The course is structured with strong emphasis on hands-on experience in our cgmp type Bio-Pilot Lab where students will be exposed to real-world problems in bioseparation, process analytics and economics. Batch 1: 30 th June - 4th July 2014 Learn Primary and Secondary purification techniques applied in the industry Apply Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) technique for purifying biological products Analyze problems encountered during protein purification using Microfiltration (MF) and Ultra filtration (UF) Employ Ion-Exchange Chromatography (IEC) for purifying proteins Develop Bio-analytical assays for quantifying purified proteins

Assess filter integrity and execute test protocols to differentiate between hydrophilic and hydrophobic filters
