1 3 rd National Conference on Photonics and Materials Science November 18-19, 2015 (NCPMS-2015) Celebrating International Year of Light Concept Note Let there be light. There has been a resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly in Dec declaring 2015 as the International Year of Light. In order to recognize the importance of raising global awareness of how light-based technologies promote sustainable development for the society in the areas of energy, education, agriculture, health and medicine; the department decided to celebrate this year to commemorate the discoveries made by various scientists of the world. This motivated us to provide an appropriate platform to the young scientists working in the field of photonics and materials science in the form of a conference at national level. We are pleased to announce that the 3 rd National Conference on Photonics and Materials Science is being organised by the department during November 18-19, 2015 About the Department Department of Applied Physics is working to attract young minds towards Physics in the areas of research as well as advanced studies. The department offers a dynamic mixture of Pure and Applied Physics. The department was established in 1996, started with the aim to cater the needs of Laser, Optics and Photonic industries. Most of the current fields are covered by the present faculty viz. Photonics, Optical Communication, Light diagnostics, Non-Linear Optics and Design. Materials Science is also one of the important thrust areas of the department. Various types of ferroelectrics, ceramics, multiferroics, ferrites, oxide glasses, nano-materials, thin films and polymeric materials are being studied for their technological applications and device fabrication. Objectives of the Conference The field of photonics is an emerging area of research and the development in this field has revolutionized the world with newer technologies. The various material processing techniques and their characterizations have added advantage to the growth and selection of the potential materials for optoelectronic devices. The objective of the present conference is to deliberate upon various key points related to the field. It will provide a forum for interaction and exchange of ideas among researchers working at the interface of photonics and materials science. All major areas in photonics technologies and materials science will be covered in talks, along with invited/special sessions. This is an opportunity for researchers to exchange ideas and their research findings in the diversified fields of Photonics, Optics, Fiber sensors, Glasses and Amorphous Systems, Multiferroics, Ferrites, Ceramics, Dielectric, Thin films and Nano-Materials.

2 The scientific sessions would include key note and invited lectures by distinguished scientists from different parts of India providing a platform for intellectual exchange between students, research scholars, faculty and scientists through oral /poster presentation by young scientists and technocrats. We look forward to your participation so as to make this conference an exciting and fruitful event. Topics to be Covered Photonics, Optics & Optical Engineering Photonic Materials Fiber Optics Technologies Glasses and Amorphous Systems Ceramics & Dielectrics Multifunctional Materials Thin films and Nano-Materials Smart Materials and Nanotechnology Optical, Electrical and Magnetic Properties of Materials Instrumentation and Devices Call for Abstracts Interested participants may submit their abstracts, not exceeding 250 words based on their original research work. Abstract may be submitted at address; ncpms2015@gmail.com. It should carry the title of paper, names and affiliation of authors(in italics) and main text in Times New Roman font size 12 and 1.5 spacing on A4 size paper giving 2.5 cm margin on all sides. References, if needed, should be listed alphabetically and cited in the text with first authors name followed by the year of publication. The name of the presenting author should be underlined. The decision for the oral/ poster presentation will be strictly followed as per approval of the technical program committee. The last date of submission of abstract is October 30, The acceptance of the abstracts will be informed latest by November 04, All correspondence be addressed to Organizing Secretary, NCPMS Department of Applied Physics, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar (Haryana) India E- mail: ncpms2015@gmail.com, sutkash@yahoo.com Mobile: Joint Secretary, NCPMS Department of Applied Physics, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar (Haryana) India E- mail: neetugju@yahoo.co.in Mobile

Important Dates Receipt of abstracts: Intimation about acceptance: Receipt of dully filled registration form along with request for accommodation: About the City Hisar is India's largest galvanized iron manufacturing city. Due to the presence of a large steel industry, it is also known as "The City of Steel". Hisar was founded in 1354 AD, as Hisar-e-Firoza by Firoz Shah Tughlaq who reigned over the Sultanate of Delhi from 1351 to Firoz Shah also brought the waters of the Yamuna River to the city by means of a canal. The Ghaggar and Drishadvati rivers once flowed through the city but they have now changed their course. Hisar has a continental climate, with very hot summers and relatively cool winters. During the period of conference the weather at Hisar will be pleasant.
