2 OVERVIEW! Independent and state-related institution of higher education! The academic programs are organized into five colleges and two schools! The curricula for these colleges and schools currently offer over 50 degrees including 39 Bachelor's, 13 Master's, 3 Doctor's of Philosophy: Materials Science and Engineering, Integrative Bio- Sciences, Interdisciplinary Pathobiology and the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.! Tuskegee enrolls more than 3,000 students and employs approximately 900 faculty and support personnel.! Physical facilities include more than 5,000 acres of forestry and a campus on which sits more than 100 major buildings and structures.

8 Material Science & Engineering Research Areas Processing, synthesizing, characterization and modeling of advanced materials that have applications ranging from Aerospace, defense, drug delivery, health care, marine, off-shore and pharmacy, among others. Currently focus is on: Synthesis of nanoparticles Morphological characterization through optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, FTIR and Raman Spectroscopy Mechanical, thermo-mechancial characterization Environmental effects like temperature, moisture, UV radiation Processing of fiber reinforced composites using carbon, glass, kevlar and natural fibers Synthesis and characterization of polymers Dynamic testing at low and high velocity, and high strain rates Ultrasonic and thermography nondestructive evaluation
