SWElife is a long-term investment aiming to strengthen the Swedish Life Science sector SWElife will optimize the use of existing competence and infrastructure through collaboration between sectors and between different regions Broad commitment and active involvement from organizations in all sectors and regions in Sweden Continuous expansion and inclusion of new partners

Collaborative innovation projects that lead to better health in the field of widespread diseases or any risk factors and complications from widespread diseases. Who? Consortia of at least 2 partners from academia/researchers, health care, companies (health care need to have an active role) How much? Up to 1 million SEK for 1 year in step 1 Up to 5 million SEK for 2 years in step 2 50 % co-funding is required in both steps When? Call is open Deadline for applications February 2nd NB. 9 SWElife Hands-on model - Strengthening innovation projects Model for SWElife calls to strenghten the quality of innovation projects and their possibilities for follow-up funding Main activities in the SWElife hands-on model: Support and input during application Mini due diligence in selection phase Sounding board to excel project in execution phase Feedback on applications and support for new funding

10 Proposals within scope Projects that aim to develop new methods of prevention, treatment or relief for people who are at risk for or already suffer from any widespread disease. Projects applying for funding must fulfil the three criteria below: Innovative build on new knowledge and contain a significant amount of risk Growth-inducing - contribute to growth of companies or create significant quality improvement within public healthcare, and for the patient Application-oriented solve a problem/need of both national and global importance as well as have a clear implementation plan for the solution (e.g. within public healthcare)

11 Widespread diseases A widespread disease (folksjukdom) is defined as a disease or a disease-group with prevalence in the population exceeding 1%. Diseases of mild character and/or short duration are not included. Examples of diseases that are covered in this call are: diabetes type 2 cardiovascular diseases obesity cancers autoimmune disorders (e.g. diabetes type 1, rheumatoid arthritis SLE) dementia and other age dependent neurological diseases mental illness chronic pain musculoskeletal diseases (e.g. osteoporosis) asthma, allergies and the lung disease COPD (covering chronic bronchitis and emphysema)
